The Indian Institute of Science, a leading institution of higher learning with a strong tradition of research for over a century, is opening its portals to undergraduate students by launching a four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) Programme. The programme is designed as a balanced blend of core science and interdisciplinary topics, to serve as a launching pad for research and doctoral studies in cutting-edge areas in science and technology. The graduates will also be ready for attractive career opportunities in academia and industry. The inaugural batch will begin classes from August 2011 and graduate in July 2015

Admissions will be based on the following national examinations: KVPY-SA-2009, KVPY-SB-2010, KVPY-SX (SB+2)-2010, IIT-JEE (2011), AIEEE (2011), and AIPMT (2011)

The Selection Process
 
ELIGIBILITY
 
Candidates who have completed their II PUC / 12th Standard or equivalent in 2010 and those who are expecting to complete it in 2011 are eligible to apply. The candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as main subjects during their PUC / 12th Standard. Candidates who have studied Biology, Statistics, Electronics, Computer Science, etc., should also have taken Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The candidates should have a first class or 60% or an equivalent grade (relaxed to pass class for SC/ST candidates).
 
SELECTION
 
Based on the merit lists of one of the following national examinations: KVPY-SA-2009 (selected as fellows), KVPY-SB (appeared in 2010), KVPY-SX/SB+2 (appeared in 2010), IIT-JEE (appearing in 2011), AIEEE (appearing in 2011), and AIPMT (appearing in 2011). 

Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/Physically-Handicapped (PH) and Kashmiri-Migrant (KM) candidates: As per Government of India regulations. 

APPLICATION FORMS
 
An application form may be obtained by either of the following two methods. You have to apply either through the off-line mode or the online mode but not both.
  1. Off-line application - Send your request for an application form with two address slips, with your mailing address clearly written (preferably stickers), and a Demand Draft for Rs. 600/- for GN/OBC/KM candidates (Rs.300/- for SC/ST/PH categories, along with a copy of an appropriate certificate) to the Deputy Registrar (Academic), Admissions Unit, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore 560 012. The DD has to be drawn in favour of "The Registrar, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore".
  2. Online application - Online application may be prepared and submitted by accessing the IISc website www.iisc.ernet.in/ug on or after 01.01.2011. The online application fee is Rs. 400/- for GN/OBC/KM candidates and Rs. 200/- for SC/ST/PH categories. After submitting the online application, a printed copy of the filled online application along with a Demand Draft for the required amount must be sent to the Institute.
 
SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION FORMS
 
Online applications must be submitted on or before 25.03.2011. Completed off-line application form and online application form (printed copy) should reach the Deputy Registrar (Academic), Admissions Unit, IISc, Bangalore-560012 on or before 31.03.2011.
