Brief description of the degree course

This PhD program is an interdisciplinary postgraduate degree in project-oriented molecular medicine. There is a focus on independent scientific work. Graduates receive an advanced professional qualification in teaching and research.

Similar degree programs are offered by almost all prominent medical schools in the USA and are also offered as EU conform postgraduate degrees throughout Europe.

Target group: Well-educated physicians who take an interest in natural sciences and have dealt with related issues during the course of their studies.

Application and Admission

Entry requirements

The entry requirement is a degree in human medicine or dentistry.

The number of students admitted once a year only is limited to 10. Prerequisites for admission to the PhD program in Molecular Medicine are as follows: above-average performance during the undergraduate degree, a passion and aptitude for scientific research studies, motivation, competence and enthusiasm are expected.

An informal essay which gives insight into the skills, motivation and interest in specific areas including professional expectations and plans.

CV

Certificates: high school diploma or equivalent certificate, tertiary education certificates, diplomas, etc.

If available, list of scientific publications and relevant research evidence of courses attended and/or study periods abroad.

Proof of English language skills or German language skills for applicants from non-German speaking countries.

Application deadline

The submission deadline for application documents for the academic year 2012/13 is 30 June 2012. NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE DEADLINE. Only complete documents, submitted in time will be taken into consideration.

Admissions process

There is no admissions process. The PhD Commission decides on the eligibility of candidates on the basis of the submitted application documents. If the number of applicants exceeds the admission limit, interviews are conducted by the PhD Commission. Factors which are considered include academic and scientific achievements during the undergraduate degree, any scientific publications, future projects and the intended dissertation subject.
