Call for Applications/Nominations for Appointment to the ‘Ramachandran Fellowship’

The National Institute of Animal Biotechnology (NIAB), an autonomous institute under the aegis of Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, established within the campus of University of Hyderabad. NIAB is aimed to harness novel and emerging biotechnologies and create knowledge in the cutting edge areas for improving animal health and productivity. The Institute’s research focus is on animal genetics and genomics, transgenic technology, reproductive technology, infectious diseases, nutritional enrichment and bioinformatics.

The Institute aims at translational research leading to genetic enhancement of Indian livestock species and development of novel vaccines, diagnostics and improved therapeutic molecules for farm animals.

The Institute plans to promote bio-entrepreneurship by providing supportive and stimulating academic and creative environment for commercial tenants involved in the development of farm animal based products and services.

The NIAB has recently introduced Ramachandran Fellowship, on full-time basis, to be given to an eminent scholar with outstanding track record in the area of animal biotechnology and holding a position of Professor/Scientist-H or a person who has achieved distinction in research/academics and internationally recognized in the area of his expertise. The Fellow will be eligible and encouraged to submit research proposals for funding from national and international S&T agencies and establish centre of excellence. Also the Fellow is expected to mentor young scientists and students in order to enhance institute’s research standards and achievements.

The Ramachandran Fellow will be appointed on the recommendation of a high level Search-cum-Selection Committee which will consider both applications received from individuals and nominations made by eminent academicians.

The Ramachandran Fellow shall receive consolidated emoluments of Rs 150,000 per month with an annual increase of 7%. The entitlements to be provided to the Ramachandran Fellow for research, travel, etc. shall be as equivalent to those for Scientist-H at NIAB. The duration of the Fellowship shall not exceed five years, and the age at the end of the Fellowship shall not be more than 64 years.

Nominations of the eligible scientists with detailed CVs may be sent to The Director, National Institute of Animal Biotechnology, Aryabhata Block, C.R. Rao AIMSCS, University of Hyderabad Campus, Prof. C.R. Rao Road, Gachibowli, Hyderabad 500 046 on or before 30 September 2013. Nominators are to certify that the nominees consented to being considered for the Ramachandran Fellowship.
