Discipline: Human Molecular Genetics

Minimum qualification: MSc in any branch of life sciences

Candidates ken to take up research in human disease biology, especially human molecular genetics, are welcome. Those with research experience, and/ or high scores on the NET or GATE exams would get preference. The project in progress, funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, aims to identify mutations causing mucopolysacharidosis (MPS) disorders in Indian patients. Samples from patients are collected through collaborating clinics. On the job, the researcher can learn how to apply molecular biology techniques (such as genomic DNA isolation, PCR and DNA sequencing). Computational tools would also be used to analyse and interpret the results.

The candidate who joins will work in the ongoing project or in other projects, as assigned. Candidates who have recently obtained a Masters degree in life sciences and wish to take up research for a couple of years before joining a world-class PhD programme would find this experience useful if they join. The work done by the researcher, if it is of sufficient merit and is a solid contribution, may lead to a research paper in which the researcher would also be an author.

Aplications may be sent via email to Sudha Srinivasan at sudha@ibab.ac.in. Additional information, if required, can be obtained from her.
