MARINA LABS offers 10-day Internship on Bionanotechnology | November 25 – 4 December 2014

Laboratory Highlights

MARINA LABS has provided many hands on courses related to Bio-nanotechnology for the students of Tamil Nadu. We have also conducted our 4th National Workshop on Bio- Nanotechnology in association with BIOLOGISTS FORUM OF INDIA. We provided training for more than 3000 school students on the introduction of Bionanotechnology through INSPIRE programme of DST, Government of India in many institutions in Tamil Nadu. We also provided training for the participants attending AICTE sponsored FDP on Application of Nanotechnology in Diagnostic and Therapeutic procedure. We published more than 12 papers in International Journals on Nanotechnology.

Course Highlights

The course provides complete knowledge on Bio- Nanotechnology from Synthesis of NPs in the Laboratory to application of NPs in Land. The course comprises 85 % of Practicals and 15 % of theory classes on the synthesis of nanoparticles, their characterization, their biological application, evaluation of toxicity and industrial application. The course design covers the practical training on the synthesis of metallic nanoparticles through chemical and biological methods. This includes synthesis of Nanoparticles (NPs) using Bacteria, Fungi, Algae and Actinomycetes. Synthesis of NPs using plants will be practiced in detail with high importance.

Course Contents

· Synthesis of Nanoparticles, easiness and difficulties faced during the harvest of NPs will be experienced by participants on their own (25th, 26th and 27th November 2014 – 3 days)

· Theoretical knowledge on Importance of UV characterization, the purpose of analysis through FTIR, Importance of XRD, SEM and TEM interpretation and particle size analyzer will be provided. (28th November 2014).

· Practical hands on experience on Biological application of NPs as antibacterial agent through Disc diffusion test and Microbroth Dilution Technique will be provided. Antifungal application of NPs will be studied through well diffusion method. Theoretical knowledge on application of NPs in controlling cancer will be discussed in this session (29th and 30th November 2014 - 2 days).

· Toxicity evaluation of synthesized NPs against the larvae of Artemia salina and Phytotoxicity evaluation will be provided practically to the participants. Cell line toxicity of NPs will be discussed theoretically (1st and 2nd December 2014 - 2 days).

· Industrial application of NPs in preparation of ointments, shampoo will be provided practically to the participants. Further application of NPs in leather storage and textile coatings will also be provided (3rd and 4th December 2014- 2 days).

· Mold challenge test on the NP coated leather and textile will be taught practically to the participants
