UGC Sponsored National Conference on NEW APPROACHES AND CONCEPTS IN MICROBIAL BIOTECHNOLOGY

September 29-30, 2015

Maharani’s Science College for Women, Bangalore

About Conference

Microorganisms are important for many reasons, particularly because they produce things that are of value to us. Microbial biotechnology has made significant advances in recent years with an overwhelming impact on the society. The developments are very fast and new dimensions are being added every day. Microbial biotechnology explores and exploits the microbial wealth for human requirements like production of microbial metabolites and products such as enzymes, organic acids, antibiotics, drugs and pharmaceuticals, in processes like recombinant protein expression, fermentation, downstream processing and in bioremediation, bioleaching, soil and waste management etc. On the other hand, there is a great deal of microbial biotechnology development and microorganisms have become indispensable tools in molecular biology and genetic engineering. This meeting aims to bridge the gap between traditional microbiology and novel microbial biotechnology, by exposing microbiologists to new ways of addressing their hypothesis. Thereby allowing technology experts to get a feeling of the burning questions in the field and collaborators for follow-up work or for applying their technology.

About the College

Maharani’s Science College for Women, Bangalore stands as a testimony to his glorious vision of providing science education exclusively to girls. This great institution has a royal lineage and was established in the year 1938 by the erstwhile maharaja of Mysore His Highness Sri Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar in the hallowed memory of his mother Vani Vilasa Sannidhana Kempananjammanniyavaru. The college with its aesthetically designed heritage building is ensconced amidst a sprawling campus of over 11.4 acres and is located in close proximity to Vidhana Soudha—the seat of power in the state. The college has earned recognition from various statutory bodies. The institution has obtained 2(f) and 12(b) tag of the UGC and has been accredited by NAAC “A” grade. The college has at present 13 science departments and 7 language departments. It runs 15 combinations in Undergraduate and 5 post graduate courses. The support of 106 teaching faculty and adequate number of non teaching faculty has contributed largely towards creating a robust academic culture.
