Notice for admission to the Ph D Programme in Microbiology for the session 2015-16 

Applications are invited in the prescribed proforma from candidates intending to enrol in the PhD programme in Microbiology, University of Calcutta. The selection procedure will adhere to the following schedule/ criteria. All subsequent notifications related to this programme will be made in the notice board of the Department of Microbiology, University of Calcutta, 35 Ballygunge Circular Road (6th floor), Kolkata – 700019. 

Number of seats: 20 [Reservation of seats as per the West Bengal Higher Education Institutions (Reservation in admission) rules, 2013]. 

Eligibility: M.Sc./B.Tech. in biological sciences from a UGC recognized university. 

Last date for submission of applications: 6th January, 2016 till 3PM. Issuance of admit cards to the eligible candidates from the departmental office: 11th January, 2016, 2PM-4PM 

Application Form is available with this notice and can be downloaded in the pdf format. The form filled-in by the candidate in his own handwriting, accompanied by self-attested copies of M.Sc./B.Tech. and NET/SET/SLET/GATE/M.Phil./SC/ST/OBC certificates (if applicable), will have to be submitted at the departmental office on or before the last date between 11AM-3PM only after paying the prescribed fee of Rs. 100 (Rupees one hundred only) at the university cash counter. The payment challan has to be endorsed by the departmental office before submission at the cash counter (11AM-1PM). 

Dates of Research Eligibility 

Test: a) Written part (RET-WP): 14th January, 2016 from 12 noon to 2PM b) 

Oral part (RET-OP): 29 th January, 2016 from 12 noon to 5PM 

DISPLAY OF THE LIST OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES IN RET-WP: 22 nd January, 2016 

The eligible candidates who cleared NET/SET/SLET/GATE/M.Phil are exempted from appearing in RET-WP and should directly appear for RET-OP interview. 

STRUCTURE OF RET –WP (50 marks): Multiple choice questions based on the syllabus of the CSIR/UGC NET examination in Life Sciences (1 mark each: 30 questions) and one broad answer type question (20 marks). Candidates must obtain qualifying marks in the RET-WP part (General – 60% marks, OBC-A & OBC-B – 54% marks and SC/ST/PH – 45% marks) to be eligible for the interview (RET-OP). The list of successful candidates eligible for admission to the PhD programme will be displayed in the departmental notice board.
