Training Course on Recent techniques in molecular microbiology

30th May-4th June, 2016

The Programme

The aim of the programme is to develop well trained manpower in the area of microbial genomics equipped with advanced theoretical and practical knowledge.

Background and Objectives

Microbial genomics is fast growing multidisciplinary science, which has a great application in agriculture and allied fields. Researchers in microbiology need to acquire knowledge and skills in molecular biology and bioinformatics to be competitive to contribute to this science. The present training programme will focus on this and is structured for those with minimum background of Microbiology, Biotechnology Biochemistry and Genetics.

Course Content

Course format will include lectures supplemented with individual hands-on experience in a variety of molecular biology techniques. Hands-on training in various molecular biology & bioinformatics techniques, include

Molecular Biology: Isolation of genomic DNA from Gram+ve, Gram–ve bacteria, fungi, DNA Quantitative and Qualitative analysis. Polymerase Chain Reaction; RFLP analysis, Sequencing Southern blotting, Plasmid isolation, Gene cloning, Transformation, Bacterial protein profile, quantitative and qualitative analysis-SDS and Western blotting.

Bioinformatics: Biological Databases, Data Mining, Sequence analysis, Sequence Assembly, Multiple Alignment, Phylogenetic Analysis Primer Designing, Restriction analysis and various other tools in bioinformatics.

Eligibility for Participation Personnel with relevant scientific background like scientists, teachers of the universities/colleges and research institutes, postgraduate/graduate students, doctorate/ research students as well as people working in industry in the field of life sciences/ agricultural sciences and related subject areas are eligible.
