SHORT TERM COURSE on Understanding Biological Functions using Molecular Dynamics Simulations

May 19th – 20th, 2016

Conducted by
Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering
Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati Guwahati
Guwahati-781 039, Assam
ABOUT THE COURSE

Faculty member of IIT Guwahati and guest faculty members from other premier Institution / Organization will deliver lecture.

COURSE CONTENTS

Molecular dynamics (MD) simulation provides the time evolution of a biological system in microscopic / atomic details, which can be converted to macroscopic properties of biological relevance (e.g, Free energies) using statistical mechanics. MD gives deeper insight into the structure, stability, kinetics, thermodynamics of biological systems. In short MD can complement, explain and provoke experiments. The main objective of this symposium “Understanding Biological Functions using Molecular Dynamics Simulations” is to inspire scientists in India and North-east in particular to use this powerful tool in their research. Biology being a truly interdisciplinary science needs attention from people of diverse expertise. In this two days event the instructor of colleges and universities will be aided by the state-of-the-art theory and selected applications of MD simulations. In this two days event, series of lectures will be delivered from renowned scientists and academician. The trainees will learn the theory and application of molecular dynamics simulations along with their limitations. The programme will cover the interesting aspects like protein folding, translation machinery, speed and accuracy in translation, antibiotics etc.

Topics to be covered

• Protein folding
• Translation machinery
• Transport through biological membranes
• Protein-ligand interaction
• Structure-based drug discovery

ELIGIBILITY

The course is open to Faculty members of TEQIP listed Institutions / Engineering Colleges and Govt funded NE State Technical Institutions. Seats that remain unfilled will be open to other institutions. No course fee is charged. Candidates from TEQIP institutions will be reimbursed TA & DA from their respective institutions.
