ABOUT THE TRAINING PROGRAMME :

To educate and provide hands on training experience to the participants on the Applications of Bioinformatics in Biotechnology with expert guidance from faculties of our department and from VLife Sciences Pune.

GOALS OF THE TRAINING PROGRAMME :

The primary goal of the training programme is to train the industry personals, teachers, research scholars and students to develop competence in complex and computationally intensive problems in structural biology, drug discovery and designing.

CONTENTS OF THE TRAINING PROGRAMME :

1. Biological databases and Data Retrieval Systems.
2. Molecular mechanics.
3. Protein conformation and structural analysis.
4. Structure-based drug designing.
5. 2D & 3D QSAR.
6. Virtual screening generation and searching.
7. Pharmacophore modeling and identification.
8. Molecular phylogeny and MSA tools.
9. Homology modeling. Short.

ABOUT THE INSTITUTE :

The National Institute of Technology, Rourkela is a premier National Institute for technical education in the country and is funded by the Government of India. It was established in 1961 as ‘Regional Engineering College’ and is now recognized as an Institute of National Importance. It offers B. Tech degree in 13 disciplines, M. Tech degree in 27 specializations, M. Tech dual degree in 14 programs, B. Arch, MBA, MA in Humanities, M.Sc and Integrated M.Sc in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Life Science. It also offers M. Tech (R) and PhD in 18 disciplines.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT :

The Department of Biotechnology and Medical Engineering was started in year 2007 with its main aim of producing qualified engineers in the fast growing field of Biotechnology and Medical Engineering. The department offers B. Tech and M. Tech degrees in Biotechnology and in Biomedical Engineering. It also offers M.Tech (R) and PhD degrees. Bioinformatics (BIF) center at NIT Rourkela was established in 2007 as part of an initiative taken by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India. Its mission is to strengthen the infrastructure for supporting complex and computationally intensive problems in genomics and proteomics, training of individuals to develop competence in identification of useful genes and develop algorithms, tools for data mining related to human, plant, microbial genomes.

REGISTRATION & FEE PARTICULARS :

Applications in the prescribed format and the registration fee in the form of a Demand Draft, drawn in favour of “Continuing Education, NIT Rourkela” Payable at Rourkela must reach the Convener on or before 10th February 2016. Seats are limited to 15.

Registration fee includes training kit, Breakfast, Lunch, and accommodation during all the workshop days. Accommodation will be provided on sharing basis in the Institute Guest House, as per the availability.
