The main aim of this refresher course (to be conducted by Centre for Fish Immunology of Vels University) is to introduce Immunology laboratory exercises using fish model. This course is important and innovative because of financial constraints in having well maintained animal houses in institutions and getting ethical clearance from IAEC for using mammalian models. Fish is an excellent alternative to mammalian models to demonstrate the immunological concepts traditionally taught using mammalian models. The participants will be provided with an 'easy to follow' laboratory manual which includes the procedures of important immunological techniques which we routinely used in our teaching and research and also in many national level workshops on immunological techniques we conducted (Note: UGC has approved this kind of 2-week Refresher Courses of good standing, for promotion of teachers vide notification - F3-1/2009 dated 30th June 2010).

Applications are invited from teachers with experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in immunology.

Maximum 24 applications will be selected and teachers who wish to participate in the Refresher Course may apply through proper channel with the following details: name, date of birth, gender, e-mail, official and residential addresses, telephone/mobile numbers, academic qualifications, immunology- theory and laboratory courses taught, affiliation, positions held and tenure. It is also essential to submit a brief statement (about 250 to 500 words) as to how they think this Refresher Course will help to improve their laboratory teaching of immunology. Applications should be submitted ONLINE by clicking the following link: http://web-japps.ias.ac.in:8080/Refreshcourse/RCILT.jsp

A print copy of the application must also be sent by speed post forwarded by the head of the institution. It should reach the Course Coordinator before 5 November 2016. Outstation candidates will be provided local hospitality and round trip bus/train (three- tier AC) fare by the shortest route.
