Applications for Ph.D. Programme of Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) January 2017 Session

CSIR-Indian Institute of Toxicology Research (CSIR-IITR), a premier research institute of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), invites applications for Ph.D. Programme under Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) from eligible candidates. CSIR-IITR, a multidisciplinary research institute with the motto ‘Safety to Environment and Health and Service to Industry’, is involved in promoting toxicology and environmental health sciences in India. On November 04, 2015, the institute celebrated fifty years of excellence in the area of human and environmental health research.

The institute is uniquely poised to conduct translational research encompassing risk assessment of environmental toxicants, seeking solution for prevention of diseases and developing detection as well as mitigation technologies for persistent hazardous chemicals. The institute provides an exciting opportunity to work on the interface of biology and chemistry focusing on cutting edge science to train the next generation of leaders in toxicology gathered from a wide range of scientific disciplines and diverse backgrounds. The institute has received Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) compliance in June 2014 for toxicity and mutagenicity studies. GLP is an internationally accepted quality system under which preclinical health and environmental safety studies are performed. Brilliant and motivated researchers with penchant for innovations are invited to apply for this Ph. D. programme and be a part of a multidisciplinary team working towards developing technologies for understanding chemical-mediated diseases, developing sensor devices to address food safety issues, employing green chemistry approaches to provide strategies for reducing pollution etc to build a career and emerge as global leaders in interdisciplinary sciences.

Eligibility (for Ph.D. in Science): Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering/ Technology (B.E/B.Tech) or Master's degree in any branch of Biological/Chemical Science with a good academic record and valid fellowship through National Entrance Test (JRFs of various funding agencies e.g. CSIR, UGC, ICMR, DBT etc.), DST-INSPIRE fellowship or other equivalent fellowships. Candidates with only ICMR Project-JRF, DBT-Category ‘B’ JRF, GATE and/or NET-LS need not apply.

Relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/Women/Physically Handicapped candidates is as per Government of India rules.

Selection process: All applications will be screened by a committee. Candidates short-listed after the screening, will be informed to appear for an interview/aptitude test at CSIR-IITR. The date of aptitude test/interview will be intimated to the shortlisted candidates and will also be posted on the institute’s website. Those appearing for the interview will not be paid any TA/DA.
