Exam cum Interviews for Research Positions Available
Hyderabad Eye Research Foundation (HERF) which is the research arm of the L V Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad (LVPEI) is a DBT Centre of Excellence for Translational Research on Eye Diseases. We have a basic research faculty of 12 working in all areas of eye biology and vision, 40 clinical faculty and about 20 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Our research is funded by DBT/DST/CSIR/ICMR as well as international agencies such as the Wellcome Trust UK, Champalimaud Foundation Portugal, NIH USA and several bi-national collaborative programmes. We are recognized by the University of Hyderabad, Manipal University, ACSIR, New Delhi and BITS-Pilani for the Ph.D. degree programme.
We are looking to recruit research personnel in the areas of interest given below. Positions are available for immediate recruitment, and will be filled following a short entrance exam cum interviews.

*Those having CSIR/UGC/ICMR-NET-JRF or lectureship qualification are preferred for these positions.
NET/GATE qualified candidates would be paid according to DST/DBT norms. **The project fellows would be paid as per the existing norms of our institute which is Rs 16,000 consolidated for a period of 2 years.
The areas of research where these positions are:
1. Genomics, Transcriptomics and Proteomics
(a) Whole exome and whole transcriptome analysis of inherited and complex eye diseases using next generation sequencing.
(b) MicroRNA profiling and characterization in age-related eye diseases and their responses to therapy.
(c) Functional characterization of genes mapped in inherited and complex eye diseases.
(d) Genetic analysis of retinal and corneal disorders.
2. Cell Biology and Stem Cell Biology
(a) Deciphering the immunological and wound healing markers for better homeostasis and survival after limbal stem cell transplantation.
(b) Finding suitable sources of stem cells for deriving corneal endothelial cells for transplantation.
(c) Application of mesenchymal stem cells for corneal epithelial regeneration and immunomodulation.
(d) Correction of gene mutation by in situ genome editing of stem cells.
3. Microbiology
(a) Characterization of clinical isolates of fungi (Candida sps./Pythium sps.).
(b) In vitro and in vivo pathogenesis studies of fungal isolates.
(c) Next generation sequencing for characterization of novel organisms in culture negative endophthalmitis and uveitis.
(d) UK-India Centre for Advanced Technologies for minimizing the indiscriminate use of antibiotics (UKICAT–MA).
(e) Association of gut/ocular microbiomes with ocular disease.
4. Biochemistry
(a) Protein structure and function.

The written exam is mandatory for all those applying for project/Junior Research Fellow position with Master’s degree from a recognized university. Only those who qualify the exam would be considered for Junior Research Fellow positions. The interview for postdoctoral fellow would start at 9.00 am on the same day.
