BACKGROUND OF THE WORKSHOP The identification of marine organisms represents a pivotal component for biodiversity studies, bioprospecting and conservation planning. Recent advances in molecular genetics have paved a way for precise identification of marine organisms with less cost and less labor intensive. Molecular techniques coupled with principles of evolution and phylogenetics have revolutionized the taxonomy of organisms. In this context, this workshop would provide indepth technological insights to the participants on various techniques involved in the molecular taxonomy of marine organisms.

TECHNICAL DETAILS OF THE WORKSHOP

The workshop is planned for 3 days. Every day morning, there will be a lecture from a subject expert followed by hands on laboratory experiments. The experts will handle the practical sessions and evaluate them also. All the participants will be provided with a Laboratory Manual. The expert will also provide contents for the laboratory manual.

TRAINING MODULES

Day 1: Molecular Taxonomy for identification of marine microbes; Theory and Hands on Training.

Day 2: Molecular taxonomy for identification of marine organisms; Theory and Hands on Training.

Day 3: Modern bioinformatics techniques in identification of marine organisms; Theory and Hands on Training. Theory and technical sessions will be handled by eminent Molecular Taxonomists from various other Institutions.
