NIMHANS Molecular Biology/Genomics PhD Studentship Vacancy | NIMHANS Recruits @ helpBIOTECH

Ph.D studentship at Center for Molecular Medicine (NIMHANS)

Applications are invited from highly motivated individuals to be part of a new Center for Molecular Medicine that is being established at National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore under Wellcome DBT Margdarshi Fellowship-funded project.

The focus of this new center, under the leadership of Dr. Akhilesh Pandey (http://www.wellcomedbt.org/fellowsprofile/professor-akhilesh-pandey-297), is to apply advanced technologies such as next generation sequencing, CRISPR/Cas9-based genome editing, mass spectrometry, animal models and bioinformatics to investigate cancer biology and neurological disorders.

The projects will involve exome sequencing of tumors and generation of isogenic cell lines using CRISPR/Cas9-based genome editing for functional characterization of potential driver mutations that are identified. Mass spectrometry will be used to discover biomarkers and to study signal transduction pathways in a global and comprehensive fashion. Patient-derived xenografts will be generated in immunodeficient mice to study tumors and to discover and characterize potential therapeutic targets. A major emphasis of the center is on creating manpower that is able to carry out sophisticated genomics, molecular biology, signaling and proteomics experiments in translating basic research to a clinical setting.

Ph.D. positions are available for CSIR/UGC/DBT JRF qualified candidates who have experience in molecular biology and genomics. Experience in working with mice is desirable.

Qualifications for JRF/SRF: Candidates must have qualified JRF/SRF and be eligible for funding from any of the agencies: CSIR-UGC, DBT, BINC or DST-INSPIRE.

The applicants should have M.Sc., or M. Tech in any field related to life sciences. Candidates without JRF fellowship need not apply.

Interested candidates should send their detailed CV by email to cmm@ibioinformatics.org with the subject line indicating “Ph.D. studentship at Center for Molecular Medicine.” Shortlisted candidates will be contacted via e-mail.
