ABOUT THE COURSE :
With the growing risk of health disorder due to day to day stress and consumption of pesticide, heavy metal and adulterant contaminated food, consumers are opting for health protecting com-pounds, viz., bioactive compounds, in their diet. Due to this, the work on bioactive compounds has intensified and has become an area of rapid research. Many plant and algal products as well as microorganisms have shown the pres-ence of a wide variety of biologically active chemicals. These biologically active compounds vary widely in their structure and function and thus are grouped accordingly. Researchers have found that these compounds have high potential as anticancer, antioxidant, antithrombotic, anti-inflammatory and anti-viral agents. Some of the examples of well known bioactive compounds are carotenoids, flavonoids, anthocyanin, tannin etc. In this short term course, a wide range of bioactive compounds from plant and microbial sources will be discussed. Application of bioac-tive compounds for improved health and its mechanism will be discussed. Both theoretical and experimental training will be imparted for an in-depth understanding of bioactive com-pounds.
Bioactive compounds from food, food waste and plant materials
Health promoting effects of bioactive compounds
Extraction and purification of bioactive com-pounds
Mechanism of action of bioactive compounds
