Walk-in Interview to engage Research Personnel
The Sálim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON) is a Centre of Excellence under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, in the field of Ornithology and Natural History. SACON wishes to engage research personnel (Indian National only) under various categories for the following research programmes:
1.National Ornithological Databank (NOD) Cell
a)    Name of the Position: Programme Fellow (1 No.); 
Age: Shall not exceed 30 years on the stipulated last date for receiving applications. The upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years in the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women and Physically Challenged applicants.
Duration: One year from the date of engagement and may be extended for further periods on the basis of performance or requirement of the project;
Fellowship: Rs. 20,000 per month plus HRA;
Essential Qualification: Minimum 55% marks in Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science / Wildlife Biology / Ecology / Zoology / Life Science / Environmental Science from a recognized University;
Desirable Qualification: i) Knowledge of database applications and experience in working with biodiversity databases, ii) familiarity with research on Indian birds and ornithology and iii) good skill in science communication in English and networking;
Description of Work: The Programme Fellow is expected to assist the Coordinator, NOD Cell in achieving the following tasks:  i) to collect, organize, curate, and publish data on Indian ornithology, ii) to maintain NOD Cell as the single-window clearing-house for all queries and searches for information on any aspects of Indian ornithology, iii) to assist the Course Director in running the M.Sc. Programme in Ornithology & Conservation Biology to be launched by SACON from 2018-19 and iv) to contribute to  institutional activities of SACON as and when mandated by the Director.
2.Developing a conservation action plan for Forest Owlet (Heteroglaux blewitti), a Critically Endangered species endemic to central India
a)    Name of the Position: Junior Research Biologist (1 No.);
Age: shall not exceed 28 years on the stipulated last date for receiving applications;
Duration: 3 years; the selected candidate will be initially engaged initially for two years and the tenure may be extended for further periods based on the requirement of the project;
Emoluments: Rs. 25,000 per month plus HRA;

Essential Qualification: Minimum 55% marks in Masters’ Degree in Zoology/Wildlife Biology/Life Sciences/Ecology/Wildlife Science/ Environmental Science from a recognized University;
Desirable Qualification: i) Knowledge of wildlife biology or conservation science, ii) Familiarity with molecular tools and laboratory work, iii) Proficiency in spoken Hindi;

Description of Work: The selected candidate is expected to undertake Forest Owlet surveys and conduct laboratory work as per the requirements of the project in different landscapes of the country and assist the Principal Investigator in project activities.
3.In-situ and Ex-situ Conservation of Endemic Andaman Edible-nest Swiftlet in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands
a)    Name of the Position: Junior Research Biologist (1 Nos.);

Age: shall not exceed 28 years on the stipulated last date for receiving applications;
Duration: 3 years; the selected candidate will be initially engaged for two years and the tenure may be extended for further periods based on the requirement of the project;
Emoluments: Rs. 25,000 per month plus HRA;
Essential Qualification: Minimum 55% marks in Master’s degree in Zoology/Ecology/Wildlife Science/Wildlife Biology/Environmental Science/Environment Management from a recognized University,
Desirable Qualification: Proficiency in Hindi (spoken, reading and writing), ready to work in  remote places and travel extensively by road and sea between the islands, rock climbing skills;
Description of Work: In-situ and ex-situ conservation of the Andaman Edible-nest Swiftlet.
4.Establishment of National Avian Forensic Laboratory at SACON for National Certification for Illegal Trafficking of Birds
a)    Name of the Position: Computer/Lab Technician (1 No.);

Age: shall not exceed  28 years on the stipulated date for receiving applications;

Duration: 3 years; the selected candidate will be initially engaged for two years and the tenure may be extended for further periods based on the requirement of the project 

Emoluments: Rs. 25,000 per month plus HRA;

Essential Qualification: Minimum 55% marks in Master’s degree in Computer Science;
Desirable Qualification: Two years of  experience in developing and managing databases/ data mining and programming.
GENERAL TERMS & CONDITIONS
  1. Candidates applying for any of the above positions should possess the Essential Qualification as per the details given against the position. Candidates willing to apply for more than one advertised positions should bring separate filled-in application form along with photocopies of all testimonials.
  2. The upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years in the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women and Physically Challenged category as per Central Government norms.
  3. Selected candidate will be engaged initially for a period mentioned against the advertised position. Subsequently his/her tenure may be extended depending upon the exigencies of work at sole discretion of the Centre and satisfactory performance of the candidate.
  4. Selected candidate may be allowed hostel accommodation at SACON as per availability. Other allowances and benefits to the research personnel would be admissible as per the rules.
  5. The selection of the candidate(s) will be based on the walk-in interview to be held at SACON, Moongilpallam, Anaikatty, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu on 18-01-2018. Candidates should report to the venue at 09.00 am on the interview day.
  6. Canvassing in any form is liable to rejection of the candidature.
  7. The Centre will not provide accommodation for candidates appearing for the interview.
