IISERK Ecological Sciences JRF Walk IN


A Junior Research Fellow position is available in a Project on Forest Landscape Ecology of the Teesta River Basin of the Sikkim Himalaya. The position is funded by the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change (MoEF & CC) and will be based at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Kolkata. The project will involve extensive field-based of studies vegetation characteristics, in continuation of a long-term study, therefore candidates should have some knowledge and experience in areas such as tropical forest ecology, field botany, forestry, and landscape ecology. The candidate will be required to spend extensive periods in the Sikkim Himalaya during the fieldwork season, and at IISER Kolkata campus during other times. The appointment will be for a period of 7 months only.
Interested candidates are required to first write to Dr. Robert John Chandran (robert.john@iiserkol.ac.in) with a detailed CV (academic qualifications, technical skills, relevant research experience, and any accomplishments). Only candidates who meet the requirements will be invited to appear for an interview. Walk-in candidates will not be entertained.
Qualifications: Candidates should have M.Sc./M.Phil./M.Tech in Biological Sciences/Ecology/Botany/Environmental Science/Geography/Forestry/GIS-RS/ with atleast 55% marks, and should have qualified atleast one national level exam such as NET-LS, GATE or equivalent exams. Some field research experience on the vegetation of Sikkim is absolutely essential, as this is a short-term appointment and work has to be accomplished quickly. Fellowship will be per MoEF & CC Guidelines.
Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be requested to appear for an interview. The interview will be held at IISER Kolkata, Mohanpur Campus on 4th September, 2018 (Tuesday) starting at 11:00 AM.
