Position : Clinical Epidemiologist

LEPRA Society is a pan-India health and development organization working for the people affected by Leprosy and other neglected diseases to transform their lives and overcome poverty, discrimination and disability. LEPRA endeavors to diagnose, facilitate treatment to those affected and help them to rehabilitate into the mainstream of the society. LEPRA works in collaborations with the Government and other funding agencies to reach into most inaccessible villages of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh states.

The Blue Peter Public Health and Research Centre (BPHRC) is a nodal center for LEPRA society towards implementing strategic research in Leprosy, Tuberculosis (TB) and, Lymphatic Filariasis. The BPHRC functions in line with the strategic aim of the LS and has three operational divisions: clinical and lab services, clinical and epidemiological research and laboratory research (immunology, molecular biology and microbiology). The BPHRC brings uniqueness to LEPRA Society as an NGO with a centrally located laboratory that works closely with clinics and outreach programme across multiple regions in India endemic to leprosy, TB and LF. The center currently holds research projects supported by national and international funding agencies such as ICMR, NIH and WHO etc. 

The main scope of this position is to conduct epidemiologic investigations used in preventing and controlling Leprosy, TB and Lymphatic Filariasis and to aid in planning corrective actions or programmes.

What you would do

S/he will:
• Design , plan and initiate epidemiological studies , surveys and investigations pertinent to leprosy , TB, NTD’s 
• Clinical data management and analysis.
• Support in documentation and publications
• Active participation in writing grants and other funding proposals
• Team with clinical and lab researchers of the centre, for planning and conducting multidisciplinary research 
• Establish epidemiological, social , behavioral or public health research at the centre
• Facilitate capacity building of field staff on basics of qualitative and quantitative research suitable for multidisciplinary, biomedical & epidemiological research

What you would need to have

Qualification & Experience

(1) Master’s in Public Health or PhD in Epidemiology(infectious diseases/leprosy/TB) or Bio-statistics
(2) 2-3 years of experience in Epidemiology and 
public health research in particular to Leprosy, TB and Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD’s).

Age limit: 35 years ( relaxable for exceptionally good candidates with proven track record)

Skills required 

1.Study designing, clinical & research data management and analysis
2.Public Health epidemiological skills; Scientific writing and publications
3.Inclination for establishing independent research in the relevant areas of leprosy, TB, NTD’s and HIV
4.Inclination to work with a not- for -profit NGO
5.Ability to plan strategic approaches for prevention and control of leprosy, TB, Lymphatic Filariasis. 
6.Aptitude for multidisciplinary research 
7.Ability to link with clinical and laboratory teams and be a good team player
8.Knowledge on national and international public health policies. 
9.Knowledge/Exposure to clinical regulatory affairs.

Salary : Commensurate with qualifications and experience according to the industry standards
