Karnataka intensified efforts to contain a raging wildfire in the Bandipur forest area in Chamarajanagar district bordering Tamil Nadu, an official said Monday. “As the wildfire spread to about 2,000 hectares in the 874 sq km forest, around 500 guards, officials and eco-volunteers from the area rushed to douse the flames.”

“With investigating agencies facing increased challenges of collecting evidence to ensure convictions in wildlife crimes, DNA forensics are providing a major headway,” said Mukesh Thakur, a scientist with the ZSI’s wildlife forensics team who has contributed to the research.

Maharashtra govt. and the Institute of Chemical Technology have teamed up with U.S.-based Good Food Institute to set up a lab by 2019 end.

 Cultured meat is meat produced by in vitro cultivation of animal cells, instead of from slaughtered animals. It is a form of cellular agriculture.

Spain and Italy have grabbed the two top spots in the list of the healthiest countries in the world. In South Asia, Sri Lanka at 66, Bangladesh at 91 and Nepal at 110 continued to rank well above India, out of the 169 countries that were evaluated. India slipped from 119 in the 2017 ranking to 120.
