The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier autonomous Institute under the Ministry of
Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India, in the field of teaching, training
and research. The WII wishes to engage following posts for the project ‘Understanding
Population Dynamics, Space Use, Movement and Diet of Leopards in Junnar Taluka,
Maharashtra for Human Leopard Conflict Mitigation’ funded by Maharashtra Forest
Department. Positions are for a period of ONE YEAR initially and may to be extended for three
years based on the performance of the candidate. The proposed project expects to generate
baseline information on spatio-temporal use of the Junnar Division and adjoining landscape
by the leopards. The study is going to help in managing leopards in the Junnar Forest Division
and will also try to evaluate the connectivity of the landscape for leopard movement.
The process of selection of Junior/Senior Research Fellow will include 01 hrs of written
test followed by Interview on 25
th March, 2019.

Qualification (EQ)
Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/
Forestry/ Life Science/ Agriculture/Environmental
Sciences/Statistics with a minimum of 60% aggregate
marks from a recognized University.
Desirable
Qualification (DQ)
Candidate(s) with prior experience in sampling design
and animal abundance estimation are preferred. Prior
experience of sampling using camera trapping,
distance sampling and radio-telemetry. Knowledge of
GIS and GPS is desirable. Should be able to
undertake arduous field work under rigorous
conditions.
Work description The work involves sampling using camera trapping
and distance sampling. Extensive tracking of collared
leopards in human dominated landscape.
Age Not exceeding 28 years as on the date of interview.
Upper age limit in case of applicants belonging to
SC/ST/OBC/PH/Women Candidates may be relaxed
as per the rules.
