Calling for Application to engage Research Personnel
The Sálim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON) is a Centre of Excellence under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, in the field of Ornithology and Natural History. SACON wishes to engage research personnel (Indian Nationals only) for the following research projects:
1.Ecosystem requirements of hornbills and assess the status and distribution of select mammals in Anjunad and adjoining Landscape, Western Ghats.
Name of the Position: Junior Research Biologist (01 No.); 
Age:  Below 28 years on the stipulated last date for receiving applications;the upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years in the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST and 3 years for OBC/Women and Physically Challenged category as per Central Government norms; 
Duration: One year; the selected candidate will be initially engaged for one year and his/her tenure may be extended for a further period on the basis of his/her performance or  requirement of the project; 
Emoluments: Rs. 25,000 per month plus HRA; 
Essential Qualification: Masters’ Degree in Zoology / Wildlife Biology/Wildlife Science/Ecology / Forestry/Environmental Science/ Environmental Management/ Life Sciences from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks or above; 
Desirable Qualification: i) Knowledge of Wildlife Biology/Conservation Science and ii) Proficiency in spoken Malayalam/Tamil; 
Description of Work: The selected candidate is expected to undertake field surveys and ecological studies as per the requirements of the project in the forests of Munnar landscape and adjoining areas in Kerala and assist the Principal Investigator in project activities. 
2.Characterization of community reserves and assessment of their conservation values in Meghalaya 
Name of the Position: Junior Research Biologist (01 No.); 
Age:  Below 28 years on the stipulated last date for receiving applications; the upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years in the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST and 3 years for OBC/Women and Physically Challenged category as per Central Government norms; 
Duration: One year; the selected candidate will be initially engaged for one year and his/her tenure may be extended for a further period on the basis of his/her performance or  requirement of the project;

Essential Qualification: Masters’ Degree in Zoology/ Forestry/Wildlife Sciences/ Wildlife Biology/Ecology/ Environmental Science/ Biodiversity & Conservation /Environmental Sciences/ Environmental Management/ Life Sciences from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks or above; 
Desirable Qualification: Knowledge/work experience on faunal studies especially mammals, camera trapping techniques, using GIS & RS spatial tools & programs and willingness to work in Meghalaya; 
Description of Work: The selected candidate is expected to undertake faunal (mammals) studies as per the requirements of the project in different Community Reserves of Meghalaya and assist the Principal Investigator in other project activities.
3.Assessing the distribution, population and habitat use of three endangered species to develop a conservation plan for species and their habitats
Name of the Position: Junior Research Biologist (1 No); 
Age:  Below 28 years on the stipulated last date for receiving applications; the upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years in the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST and 3 years for OBC/Women and Physically Challenged category as per Central Government norms; 
Duration: One year; the selected candidate will be initially engaged for one year and his/her tenure may be extended for a further period based on the   requirement of the project; 
Emoluments: Rs. 25,000 per month plus HRA;  
Essential Qualification: Masters’ Degree in Zoology/ Wildlife Biology/Life Sciences/Ecology/Wildlife Science/ Environmental Science from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks or above.  
Desirable Qualification: Research experience in wildlife studies; 
Description of work: The selected candidate needs to work in remote areas of north-eastern and western India to collect ecological data on bird species. 

GENERAL TERMS & CONDITIONS
  1. Candidates applying for any of the above positions should possess the Essential Qualification as per the details given against the position. Candidates willing to apply for more than one advertised positions should submit separate application form.
  1. The upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years in the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST and 3 years for OBC/Women and Physically Challenged category as per Central Government norms.
  1. Selected candidate will be engaged initially for a period mentioned against the advertised position. Subsequently his/her tenure may be extended depending upon the exigencies of work at sole discretion of the Centre and satisfactory performance of the candidate.
  1. Selected candidate may be allowed hostel accommodation at SACON as per availability. Other allowances and benefits to the research personnel would be admissible as per the rules.
  1. The selection of the candidate(s) will be based on the walk-in interview to be held at SACON, Moongilpallam, Anaikatty, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu on 25.04.2019. Candidates should report to the venue at 09.00 am on the interview day.
  1. Canvassing in any form is liable to rejection of the candidature.
  1. The Centre will not provide accommodation for candidates appearing for the interview.
