Admission Notification for PhD (Neuroscience) and Integrated PhD (Neuroscience) Programmes 2010
National Brain Research Centre (NBRC) is a premier institution engaged in research in the frontier areas of Neuroscience to understand the function of healthy and diseased brain. With the goal to provide seamless transition from classroom training to high-quality research in challenging areas of Neuroscience, NBRC offers Ph.D. programme in Neuroscience for exceptionally meritorious and motivated students. Admissions for the year 2010 are based on an entrance test followed by 2 tier interview. In this regard, NBRC invites applications for its Ph.D. and Integrated Ph.D. programmes in each of the following broad research areas:
1) Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience
2) Systems and Cognitive Neuroscience
3) Computational Neuroscience and Neuro Imaging
ELIGIBILITY for NBRC PhD
PhD (NEUROSCIENCE)*
1. Master's degree or equivalent in any branch of Science such as Life Science / Physics/ Chemistry / Mathematics / Statistics / Computer application / Pharmacy / Veterinary Science/ Psychology. OR
2. A minimum of four-year bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering/ Technology / Medicine.
INTEGRATED Ph.D. (NEUROSCIENCE)*, #
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in any branch of Science such as Life Science / Physics / Chemistry / Mathematics / Statistics / Computer applications / Pharmacy / Veterinary Science / Psychology / Engineering / Technology / Medicine.
*Candidates appearing for final year of the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply.
# On successful completion of the Integrated Ph.D. programme the students will be awarded both an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. Degree.
GENERAL INFORMATION for NBRC PhD
Note 1 : Only the candidates with a track record of at least 55% marks from secondary examination onwards will be considered. However, mere fulfillment of minimum requirement will not entitle a candidate to be called for the interview. Only the candidates called for the interview will be paid ordinary sleeper class train fare from the nearest railway station, on production of tickets.
Note 2 : The entrance test may consist of questions (with multiple choice answers), on the subjects - Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology (candidates are required to attempt questions on any 3 subjects) and on General Knowledge or General awareness related to Science.
Note 3 : The candidates who have qualified for JRF in CSIR/ UGC/ICMR/ICCSR/DBT or any other equivalent national examination will be called for the interview directly. They need not appear for the entrance test. However they are required to apply against this advertisement and should have the validity to activate the fellowship at least up to 6th August, 2010.
Note 4 : Candidates appearing for final year of the qualifying examination will be required to submit the proof of having qualified in the examination latest by 31st July, 2010. If selected, their selection will be provisional and subject to production of proof of qualifying in the respective examination with the required cut-off percentage.
Note 5 : Candidates claiming equivalence to any of the degrees or fellowships mentioned in this advertisement will have to furnish satisfactory proof from appropriate authority. NBRC reserves the right to accept or reject it. No correspondence would be entertained in this regard.
Note 6 : Concessions / Reservation to SC / ST and PH candidates will be as per Government of India / UGC / NBRC policy.
SELECTION PROCEDURE
Shortlisted candidates after the entrance test will be called for a two-tier interview at NBRC. The final selection will be based on the performance in the interview. The dates for the interview will be intimated later, and will also be placed on NBRC website.
The decision of the screening/selection committee will be final and no correspondence in this regard will be entertained. Canvassing in any form will disqualify the applicant. The candidates finally selected for the Ph.D. and Integrated Ph.D. programmes will be eligible for scholarship as per NBRC rules and will be provided hostel accommodation on a sharing basis.

The same can also be obtained from the Academics Section, NBRC, in person or through post/courier by sending a demand draft for Rs. 50/- (non refundable) drawn in favour of The Director, NBRC payable at Manesar or Gurgaon.
B. Completed application can be submitted offline (by regular post) or online through the following link http://www.applicationnew.com/NBRC2010
The application fee is Rs. 750/- for offline, Rs. 600/- for online and Rs. 300/- for SC/ST/PH applicants (both offline or online). The application fee should be paid by demand draft drawn in favour of The Director, NBRC payable at Manesar or Gurgaon, and is non-refundable
C. The candidates submitting their application offline should send - 1) completed application form, 2) copy of all certificates/degrees from secondary (10th) onwards, 3) a passport-size photograph, and 4) a demand draft drawn in favour of The Director, NBRC towards the application fee, to reach The Advertiser (NBRC), Post Box No. 9248, Krishna Nagar Head Post Office, Delhi - 110 051 latest by 6th April, 2010.
D. The candidates submitting their application online should also send by regular post a copy of the Registration Slip duly printed for having submitted online application, as well as the items 2), 3) and 4) as mentioned above in C latest by 12th April, 2010.
E. Incomplete applications and applications received after last date may not be considered.

The entrance tests for both Ph-D and Integrated Ph-D programmes will be conducted on 9th May, 2010 at Allahabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Pune (Any test Centre may be cancelled or altered at the discretion of NBRC). The applicants who have opted cancelled centre will be allotted alternate test centre and intimated in the admit card. Detailed information in this regard will be placed on NBRC website and applicants will be informed accordingly while sending the admit cards for the entrance test by 21st April, 2010.
