The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier national autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoE&F), Government of India in the field of teaching, training and research. The WII wishes to engage 09 research personnel [01- Senior Research Fellow (SRF); 06-Junior Research Fellows (JRFs) and 02- Technical Assistants (TAs)] through a walk-in-interview on Monday, 23rd May 2011. The details of the available position along with essential and desirable qualifications, terms and conditions and how to apply are given below: 

Reproductive Biology and Behavior of Captive and Wild Populations of Western Tragopan in Himachal Pradesh. 

(02 – JRFs)
Duration: Three years.
Essential Qualification
Masters degree in Wildlife Science/Botany/Zoology/Forestry/Life Science/Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences/Biological Sciences/Veterinary Science with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.
Desirable Qualification
Prior experience in (a) zoo management, (b) behavioral studies, (c) field survey methods, and (d) Application of Remote Sensing and GIS.
Description of Work
JRF-1: (a) Study reproductive biology and behavior of captive birds; and (b) develop methods for captive management and improving breeding success of captive birds;
JRF-2: (a) Coordinate and undertake field surveys for assessing distribution and population status of Western Tragopan in wild; (b) Map habitat availability and distribution using RS and GIS tools; (c) Develop Species Recovery Plan for captive and wild management.    
Ecological Monitoring of Tiger Population in Panna Landscape, Madhya Pradesh.

(01 – JRF)
Duration: Three years.
Essential Qualification
Masters degree in Wildlife Science/Botany/Zoology/Forestry/Life Science/Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences/Biological Sciences/Veterinary Science with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.
Desirable Qualification
Prior experiences in (a) Radio-tracking of wild animals, and (b) Occupancy and population estimation methods using Distance Sampling procedure and Camera Traps.
Description of Work
(a) Study movement pattern and behavior of reintroduced tigers and their offspring; (b) Estimate population status of co-predators and prey species; and (c) Undertake species-habitat relationship analysis.
Ecological Monitoring of Tiger Population in Panna Landscape, Madhya Pradesh.

(01 – TA)
Duration: One year.
Essential Qualification
Masters degree in Wildlife Science/Botany/Zoology/Forestry/Life Science/Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences/Biological Sciences/Veterinary Science with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks from a recognized University.
Desirable Qualification
Prior experience in wildlife field research including radio-tracking of wild animals and population estimation methods.
Description of Work
(a) Monitor introduced tigers and their offspring, and (b) Provide technical assistance to the project team.
Structural and functional attributes of plant communities in Cold Arid Region of Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve, Uttarakhand in relation to Resource Use Pattern.

(02 – JRFs)
Duration: Three years.
Essential Qualification
Masters degree in Botany/Forestry/Life sciences/Environmental Science with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.
Desirable Qualification
Work experience in the Himalayan region and in the field of Remote Sensing & GIS.
Description of Work
Assessment of alpine pastures, major growth-forms in various land form units, traditional resource use pattern and their impact and Remote Sensing & GIS in the cold arid region of Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve.
Status and Habitat assessment of Bengal Florican Houbaropsis bengalensis in the grasslands of Uttar Pradesh.

(01 – JRF)
Duration: Two years.
Essential Qualification
Masters degree in Wildlife Science/Botany/Zoology/Forestry/Life Science/Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences/Biological Sciences with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University
Desirable Qualification
Prior experiences in (a) Bird behavioral studies, (b) field survey methods.
Description of Work
(a) Coordinate and undertake field surveys for assessing distribution and population status of Bengal Florican and its habitat especially in the grasslands of Dudhwa Tiger Reserve and adjoining areas ; (b) Map habitat availability and distribution using RS and GIS tools; and (c) Develop Species Recovery Plan for the species and its habitat.
Ecology of Asiatic Black Bear at Dachigam National Park, Kashmir.

Sub-component: Population genetics of Asiatic black bear in Dachigam Landscape, Kashmir, India.

(01 – SRF)
Duration: One year.
Essential Qualification
Masters degree in Biotechnology/Zoology with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University with  two years of research experience.
Desirable Qualification Research experience in molecular techniques, assessment of genetic diversity, population genetics, and data analysis skills using software.
Description of Work This project aims to explore a few aspects of population genetics of black bear in Dachigam landscape i.e. genetic diversity assessment, population estimation, molecular tracking of individuals and genetic structuring of the population using non-invasive samples (200 hair samples and 400 scat samples) collected so far in the WII’s ongoing research project (2007-2012) on black bear at Dachigam National Park to understand black bear ecology and bear-human interactions.
GENERAL TERMS & CONDITIONS
  1. The age of the candidate shall not be more than 28 years for the advertised position of JRF and TA and 32 years as on 20th May 2011 for the advertised position of SRF. Upper age limit for SRF/JRF/TA may be relaxed up to 5 years, as in case of candidates  belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women and physically handicapped categories.
  2. Selected candidate for the position of Junior Research Fellow will be paid a consolidated emoluments of Rs. 12,000/- per month. In case of NET qualified candidates (UGC/CSIR) for Research Fellows, the selected JRF will be paid consolidated emoluments of Rs. 16,000/- per month and in case of NET qualified (UGC/CSIR) candidates with Professional P.G. Degree, he/she will be paid consolidated emoluments of Rs. 18,000/- per month as fellowship.
  3. The fellowship amount for the selected Senior Research Fellow is Rs. 14,000/- consolidated per month and Rs. 18,000/- in case of NET qualified candidate(s) for Research Fellows (UGC/CSIR).
  4. The fellowship amount for the selected Technical Assistant is Rs. 9,600/- consolidated per month and Rs. 12,700/- in case of NET qualified candidate(s) for Research Fellows (UGC/CSIR).
  5. Selected candidate may be allowed hostel accommodation at the institute, as per availability. Where the hostel accommodation is not possible, house rent allowance (HRA) will be paid as per the rules of the Institute subject to the condition that HRA payable, in no case, shall be more than the rates payable to Central Govt./WII Employee(s) in that area. Other allowances and benefits to the research personnel would be admissible as per the rules of the Institute, amended from time to time.
  6. The selection of the candidate will be based on Walk-in-Interview to be held on Monday, 23rd May 2011 at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehra Dun. The registration will begin by 09:00 A.M. onwards.
  7. Canvassing in any form is liable to rejection of the candidature.
  8. Candidates should bring the duly filled-in applications with attested true copies of testimonials of educational qualifications, research experience, extra curricular activities, date of birth etc., along with copies of mark sheets of all examinations. All original documents should be produced at the time of registration.
  9. A candidate will be allowed to submit duly filled-in application for only one advertised position. Applications without enclosures and/or incomplete in any respect shall be liable to rejection.
  10. One way travel expenses will be paid to the candidate, selected for the project. The expense will be limited to actual 2nd class rail/bus fare by the shortest route from his/her place of stay/residence.
  11. The Institute will not provide accommodation for candidates appearing for the interview.
