Statistics in Action | A Four-day International Workshop

Workshop programme: Lectures on case studies by senior applied statisticians, presentations of research problems and data (being) gathered, discussion of appropriate statistical analysis, laboratory sessions on illustrative computations, panel discussions on international collaborations across disciplines, leading to recommendations to the ISI for activities to promote use of statistics in various walks of life (6–7 hours per day).
Pre-workshop activities: Project competitions among undergraduate and postgraduate students, teachers’ forum on problems in statistics education.
Who should apply: (1) Statisticians interested in applications. (2) Biologists or Social Scientists active in research in which use of statistical tools is vital. Evidence of project work or publications will strengthen the application. (Preference is for researchers who have already gathered data and seek statistical advice or assistance.) (3) Aspiring applied statisticians, research students and post graduate students.
Capacity: About 50 participants. A few seats will be reserved for nationals of Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Some preference will be given to government officials.
Registration fee: A fee of Rs 1000 is payable by each participant.
Funding support: Accommodation and food, study materials and limited support for travel.
How to apply: Send e-mail with a covering letter, a brief CV and ensure that following information is included: name, date of birth, gender, current affiliation, degrees with dates and names of institutions, subject areas of interest, experience in application of statistics, summary of publications, whether travel support is needed (include a letter from unit head declaring that travel support from parent organization is not possible), postal address and phone numbers.
In case of students, please include recommendation of the Head of the Department/Institute.
