ADVERTISEMENT RECRUITMENT FOR 06 RESEARCH POSITIONS 

The Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) invites applications from Indian nationals for the recruitment of 06 research personnel on a purely temporary and contractual basis, under a NMHS funded project initially for one year and extendable up to three years or longer based on the performance and or project duration. 

The positions are co-terminus with the respective projects, and details are given in Annexure I. 

Projects: 

• Project : Assessing the Potential Health of Indian Himalayan Peatland through Long-term Monitoring of the Eukaryotic Microbial Community and its Interaction with the Carbon Dynamics.

Senior Research Fellow (SRF) 1 

42,000/- plus HRA as admissible 

M.Sc + Minimum Two years of Research Experience. In Zoology/ Botany/ Microbiology/ Bioinformatics/ Environmental Science/ Ecology or equivalent degree in Life Science From a Recognized University and a SCI article in the relevant field Or 
Candidates who have submitted PhD thesis as above are also eligible to apply and will be considered for Senior Project Fellow until the project completion. 

 Experience in Soil chemistry/ Water Chemistry Analysis 
 Extensive Fieldwork experience in high-altitude ecosystems of Himalayan region. 
 Skilled in working with GIS datasets and proficient in utilizing geospatial software such as ArcGIS and QGIS for spatial analysis, mapping, and data visualization. 
 Experience in in molecular techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and sequencing 
 Working experience of bioinformatics tools and pipelines for metagenomic analysis, and genomic data interpretation 
 Knowledge of statistical analysis software (e.g., R, PRIMER PERMANOVA, PAST) 
 Working Experience of Advance microscopy (eg.Phase contrast and DIC, Fluorescence) 
 Proficiency in the local languages of the study region will be considered as an added advantage. 

32years 

-Design and execute field sampling and lab protocols for Peatland Soil, Water Chemistry analysis techniques and Carbon Dynamics study. 
- Conduct DNA extraction, PCR, RT- PCR, and library preparation for NGS and Analyze genomic and metagenomic data using QIIME, Geneious, MEGA, and Python/R-based pipelines for Eukaryotic microbial Diversity Analysis 
- Assist in the development and validation of carbon flux assays and food web dynamics for assessing peatland health. 
- Assist in prepare technical reports, research manuscripts, and data visualizations for dissemination in internal reviews and peer-reviewed publications 
- Coordinate with collaborators and contribute to capacity-building activities such as field training, stakeholder engagement, and technical workshops 

Junior Research Fellow (JRF) 04 

37,000/- plus HRA (30%) as admissible for candidates qualified CSIR/UGC NET/ GATE/DBT-BET or any other national level examination Or Candidates not falling into the above category will be paid Rs. 24,000/- plus HRA (30%) as Admissible [Candidates who have qualified the CSIR/UGCNET JRF will be encouraged and supported to activate their fellowship through ZSI and will be provided necessary assistance to register for a Ph.D. program] 

Master's degree in Zoology/ Botany/Biotechnology/ Microbiology/BioInformatics/ Environmental Science or Equivalent degree in Life Science from a recognized University with minimum of 60% aggregate marks, or Equivalent degree from a UGC recognized University 

• Demonstrated fieldwork experience in the Indian Himalayan Region (IHR). 
• Demonstrated expertise in molecular biology methodologies, including the extraction of DNA/RNA, PCR amplification, and both Sanger and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) techniques. 
• Practical experience in geospatial data analysis using software platforms such as ArcGIS and QGIS. 
• Specialized knowledge in bryophyte taxonomy and systematics. 
• Experience in Microbiology techniques of bacterial studies and carbon dynamics 
• In-depth understanding of various groups of eukaryotic microorganisms. 
• Hands-on experience in analyzing soil and water chemistry. 
• Foundational knowledge of a range of microscopic techniques. 
• Working familiarity with data analysis and scripting using R and Python 
• Proficiency in the local languages of the study region will be considered as an added advantage. 

28years 

- Conduct field sampling in the Indian Himalayan Region (IHR), and collection of biological, environmental specimens from Peatlands 
- Perform molecular biology techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, 
- Prepare samples for and assist in Soil chemistry and Water chemistry Analysis 
- Coordinate and document field-to-lab sample transfer, including proper metadata and storage protocols -Work independently and collaboratively in highaltitude, logistically challenging conditions as part of a multidisciplinary team 
- Contribute to data analysis, sample documentation, and preparation of technical notes, field reports, and scientific publications
