Walk-in/Online Interview for the Position of Research Associate-II (01), Project Associate-I(03), Research Associate-I(04), Senior Research Fellow(01), Field Assistan (01) and Junior Research Fellow (01)

National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI) is an autonomous Institute under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. NABI aims at catalysing the transformation of the Agri-food sector in India by being a nodal organization for knowledge generation and translational science leading to value-added products based on Agri-Food biotech innovations for improved household nutritional security. Since its inception in 2010, NABI is involved in research activities for Bio-fortification, the development of designer crops for improved nutrition, providing sustainable and novel solutions for quality food and nutrition, and the development of evidence-based functional foods to counter malnutrition. The food and nutritional Biotechnology division at NABI requires the following research personnel purely on a temporary basis. 

1. Project Title:“Developing abiotic stress tolerant high-yielding ‘STuRDY’ rice in mega-variety Swarna through genome editing.”(GAP-92) 

Principle Investigator: Prof. Ashwani Pareek, Executive Director 

Positions: Research Associate-II (One position) 

Duration: Three years (Subject to evaluation at end of each year). 

Essential Qualification: Ph.D. in any branch of Life Sciences or Biotechnology or in relevant field with at least two first author peer-reviewed research publications in Science Citation indexed (SCl) journals. 

Desirable Experience: Experience in the area of plant molecular biology, genome editing and its application in crop plants. 

Emoluments: Rs. 61,000/- per month plus HRA (As per DST OM No. DST/PCPM/Z06/2022 dated 26.06.2023) 

Age limit: 40 years (Relaxation is admissible in the case of SC/ST/OBC/PD and women candidates as per GOI instructions).

Desirable Experience: General plant molecular biology and plant tissue culture-related techniques, plant transformation. 

Emoluments: Rs. 31,000/- per month plus HRA (Emoluments and eligibility are as per DST OM SR/S9/Z-05/2019 dated 10th July, 2020)

3. Project Title:“Genetic dissection of rancidity and goitrogenic c-glycosyl flavone biosynthesis genes to enhance the shelf-life and nutritional quality of pearl millet flour.”(GAP-94) 

Principle Investigator: Dr. Rupam Kumar Bhunia, Scientist-E 

Positions: Research Associate-I (One position) 

Duration: The initial appointment will be for a period of one year. Extension will be subject to the submission of a progress report and a subsequent evaluation of the candidate’s performance. Tenure of the project is 3 years. 

Essential Qualification: PhD in Life Science/Biotechnology/Botany/Biochemistry with at least three research paper in peer-reviewed research publications in science citation indexed (SCI) journals in the area directly related to the project. 

Desirable Experience: 
1. Experience in molecular biology, genome editing, GC/GC-MS 
2. Expertise in millet tissue culture techniques will be given preference. 

Responsibilities: 
i. Identification of candidate genes 
ii. Transformation of CRISPR constructs 
iii. Screening of edited lines and lipid analysis using GC

Positions: Senior Research Fellow (One position) 

Duration: The initial appointment will be for a period of one year. Extension will be subject to the submission of a progress report and a subsequent evaluation of the candidate’s performance. Tenure of the project is 3 years. 

Essential Qualification: 

a. Postgraduate degree in Life Science/Biotechnology/Botany/Biochemistry. 
b. Scholars who are selected through National Eligibility Tests-CSIR-UGC-NET, including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship), GATE and GPAT 
c. The selection process via National-level examinations conducted by central government departments and their agencies and institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER etc. 
d. Two years of research experience. 

Desirable Experience: 

1. HPLC and LC-MS for metabolite analysis. Proficiency in bioinformatics tools for GWAS and RNA-seq data analysis. 
 2. Prior experience in millet tissue culture will be considered an added advantage. 

Responsibilities: Quality improvement of pearl millet with a focus on reducing goitrogenic compounds in seeds through metabolite profiling (HPLC, LC-MS) and integration of genomic and transcriptomic data (GWAS, RNA-seq). 

Emoluments: Rs. 42000/- per month plus HRA (As per DST OM No. DST/PCPM/Z06/2022 dated 26.06.2023).

Tenure of the project is 3 years. 

Essential Qualification: B.Sc/3 years Diploma in Engineering and Technology. 

Responsibilities: The Field Assistant will be responsible for routine care of plants in the field and greenhouse. Assist students in field activities, help maintain and multiply genomeedited lines in the net house, and keep records of samples and lab requirements related to the project. 

Emoluments: Rs. 20000/- per month plus HRA (As per DST OM No. SR/S9/Z-05/2019 dated 10.07.2020)

6. Project Title: “Exploring wild rice phyllosphere and seed microbiome for sustainable agriculture.”(Own Fellowship) 

Principle Investigator: Dr Charanpreet Kaur, Scientist-D 

Positions: Junior Research Fellow (One position) 

Duration: The appointment will be initially for two years as JRF. Further up-gradation from JRF to SRF will be on the basis of the submission of progress report and further assessment. 

Essential Qualification: 
a) MSc/MTech in any area of life sciences or an equivalent degree. 
b) 55% total marks or equivalent score in the qualifying degree (5% relaxation in marks will be given to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PWD as per GOI norms). 
c) In addition to the above, candidates must qualify a national-level test for pursuing the Doctor of Philosophy program. Such tests include doctoral fellowship or admission eligibility tests conducted at the national level by recognized government agencies, such as the University Grants Commission (UGC), Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Department of Biotechnology (DBT), or any other governmentrecognized agency. 

Desirable Experience: Research experience in molecular biology, microbiology and NGS data analysis is desirable. 

Responsibilities: JRF will be required to carry out microbe isolation, metagenomic studies and plant physiology experiments. 

Emoluments: The students should have their own fellowship from any of the recognized granting agencies as per the OM, DST/PCPM/Z-06/2022 dated 26.06.2023.

7. Project Title: “Microbial Solutions for Punjab’s Fertilizer Crisis: Enhancing Soil Ecology and Crop Yields.”(GAP-93)

Positions: Project Associate I (One position) 

Duration: The position is purely temporary and co-terminus with the project (initially for one year, extendable based on performance and project continuation up to 3 years). 

Essential Qualification: Master’s Degree in Microbiology/Botany/ Biotechnology/Biochemistry/Agriculture/Plant Molecular Biology or allied sciences from a recognized University or equivalent. 

Desirable Experience:- Strong experience in microbiology and plant physiology. In addition, knowledge about NGS data analysis will be highly preferable. 

Responsibilities:-PA will be required to carry out experiments related to microbe isolation and characterization, and plant physiology experiments.

Positions: Research Associate I (One position) 

Duration: The position is purely temporary and co-terminus with the project (initially for one year, extendable based on performance and project continuation up to 3 years). 

Essential Qualification: 
• Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Biotechnology, or Life Sciences with computational experience OR 
• M.Tech/M.Sc. in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology/Computer Science/Statistics with three years of relevant research experience and at least one research paper in a Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journal. 

Desired Qualifications: 
● Prior experience in handling large-scale metagenomic or microbial datasets. 
● Familiarity with genome binning and MAG quality assessment. 
● Expertise in network analysis and co-occurrence-based ecological modelling. 
● Understanding of soil or agricultural microbiome research. 
● Working knowledge of high-performance computing clusters. 
● Evidence of peer-reviewed publications in the relevant domain. 
● Experience with database creation and curation. 
● Prior experience in microbiology, genomics and metagenomics wet-lab work. 

Job Description:-The Research Associate (RA) will contribute to the computational biology objectives of the project by performing integrative bioinformatics analysis of metagenomic data. The selected candidate will be primarily supervised by the Co-PI, Dr Shrikant Mantri, but may be involved in collaborative work under the guidance of other PIs associated with the project. 

The RA will be involved in: 

● Analysing high-throughput sequencing data (amplicon and whole-genome shotgun) 
● Taxonomic profiling and pattern analysis 
● Assembly, binning, and annotation of Metagenome-Assembled Genomes (MAGs) 
● Biosynthetic Gene Cluster (BGC) analysis 
● Functional annotation and metabolic pathway reconstruction 
● Applying machine learning and AI algorithms for integrative meta-analysis 
● Supporting the creation of a curated database of MAGs and BGCs 
● Assisting in preparation of research publications, reports, and presentations, project and lab management. 
● Assist the project team in wet-lab project work. 

Strong experience in: 
 Metagenomic data analysis 
 Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) workflows and pipelines 
 Linux/Unix command-line operations and scripting (Python/Perl/Bash) 
 R or Python for statistical data analysis and visualization 
 High Performance Computing

9. Project Title: “Identification and characterization of stress and nutrition associated genes in banana.” (NABI-CORE) 

Principle Investigator: Dr. Sanjana Negi, Scientist-C 

Positions: Research Associate I (One position) 

Duration: The position is purely temporary and co-terminus with the project (initially for one year, extendable based on performance and project continuation up to 3 years). 

Essential Qualification: Ph.D./MD/MS/MDS or equivalent degree or having 3 years of research, teaching and design and development experience after VSc/M.Pharm/ME/M.Tech with at least one research paper in Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journal. 

Desirable Experience:- Basic knowledge of bioinformatics tools, transcriptomic analysis, general plant molecular biology-related techniques such as cloning and qPCR, plant tissue culture, and transformation of bacteria and plants.

10. Project Title: “Process optimization and up-scale production of lignocellulosic extremozymes from Himalayan microbes for biomass alorization/depolymerization.” (GAP-59) 

Principle Investigator: Dr. Amit Kumar Rai, Scientist-D 

Positions: Project Associate I (One position) 

Duration: The Project Associate I is a purely temporary assignment and is tenable for a period of 3 months or the last date of the project, whichever is earlier. 

Essential Qualification: Masters in Biotechnology/Microbiology/Life Science. The candidate should have qualified any one of the national level examinations (CSIR-UGC-NET or GATE). Additionally, candidate will be eligible for interview if they have qualified National Level examinations conducted by central government departments and their agencies and institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, etc. 

Desirable Experience:- 

1. Experience in microbial fermentation and production of biocatalyst from native microbial strains. 
2. Experience in chromatographic separation techniques (e.g., HPLC, column chromatography). 

Job profile: 

1. The Project Associate I will focus on purification and characterization of protein particularly biocatalysts produced by microorganisms. 
2. The Project Associate I will oversee the application of specific enzyme producing microorganisms for production of value-added products from low-cost biomass. 

Emoluments: The Project Associate I will be hired with the emoluments Rs. 31,000/- + 8% HRA (For NET and GATE qualified candidates) and Rs. 25,000/- +8% HRA (For Non-NET/ GATE qualified candidates)

11. Project Title:“Identification of potential agri-waste residues for processing to biocoal via torrefaction.”(NABI & CIAB Core) 

Principle Investigator: Dr. Joy K Roy, Scientist-F (NABI) Dr. Sasikumar Elumalai, Scientist-E (CIAB) 

Positions: Research Associate I (One position) 

Duration: The RA-I fellowship is a purely temporary assignment and is tenable for 2 years only. The extension to the second year is subject to satisfactory progress, institutional needs and financial provisions. In exceptional cases depending upon the research progress and performance, the committee may recommend the up-gradation of RA Levels. 

Essential Qualification: PhD in Chemistry (General / Organic / Inorganic / Physical / Other) /Electrochemistry/ Materials Engineering/ Science or relevant discipline (Engineering/Science in Biochemistry/Chemical Engg.) from a recognized University/Institute with at least one research paper in a Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journal. 

Desirable Experience:- Research experience in solid material analytical characterization, electrochemical reactions or carbon-based adsorbent preparation for agricultural development (nutrient supply). 

Emoluments: Rs.58,000/- per month + HRA, depending on years of experience. RA Emoluments and Eligibility conditions are as per DST OM: DST/PCPM/Z-06/2022 dated June 26, 2023 Age limit: 40 years for RA-I.

Application Procedure & Other Conditions 

1. All interested candidates may appear for Walk-In-Interview at National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute located at Knowledge city, Sector-81, Mohali, Punjab- 140306, on 30.06.2025 at 09:00 A.M. along with the duly filled application form available on the website www.nabi.res.in. (Phone No. 0172-5221245) 
2. Incomplete application forms and applications that are not in proper format may be summarily rejected. 
3. The applications should be submitted strictly as per the prescribed format that can be downloaded from the NABI website. 
4. Candidates applying for more than one post can give their preference by writing different designations in the same application form. 
5. Candidates should ensure that information mentioned in the application form is accurate. Once the application form is submitted no further request regarding any changes/ information in the application form will be considered. 
6. duly filled application form must be submitted at the time of registration at NABI from 09:00 AM to 10:00 AM on 30.06.2025. 
7. The candidates must ascertain their eligibility before applying, as ineligible candidates will not be interviewed. 
8. All the candidates are requested to appear for a Walk-In interview with an application form, experience certificates, publications, and original degree certificates and transcripts. 
9. Original mark sheets, certificates, award/fellowship, etc must be accomplished for verification at the time of the interview and attach one set of attested copies of the documents with the application form. 10. No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in the interview. 
11. Canvassing in any form or bringing influence, political or otherwise, will lead to disqualification of the candidate(s). 
12. Candidates should strictly adhere to guidelines issued by World Health Organization and Centre Govt/State Govt on Covid-19. 
13. In the event of special circumstances, candidates may request the project investigator (via email) to conduct their interviews online. Such requests must be submitted well in advance, preferably at least one week prior to the scheduled interview date. However, the final decision will be taken by the selection committee to ascertain the special circumstances and allow the candidate (s) for an online interview. The Institute reserves the right to conduct the interview in online/offline mode. 
14. Interview results will be published on the NABI website. 

Note: Permission for online interview may be sought from the PI at least one week prior to the interview date and a valid reason must be given for the same.
