The National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS) is an autonomous institution of Department of
Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, for a mandate of basic
research, teaching & training, and as a national repository for cell lines/hybridomas etc.
The Centre is
located in the midst of academically enriched environment of Savitribai Phule Pune University Campus,
Pune. NCCS invites applications for following posts on various extramural projects purely on temporary
basis.

Essential Qualification &
Experience: B.Sc. / 3 years Diploma in Engineering & Technology.
Desirable Experience:
Position 1-3: Ability to assist in DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and gel
electrophoresis for genomics and metatranscriptomics workflows. Support in
fermentation experiments, small-scale bioreactor operations, sample
preparation for GC-MS, and basic knowledge of upscaling microbial growth.
Position 4-6: Basic experience in microbiology laboratory practices
including media preparation, culture handling, autoclaving, and maintenance
of aseptic conditions. Familiarity with microbial isolation, subculturing,
revival, and viability checks, experience in lab upkeep, inventory
management, documentation.
Position 7: Project Assistant with experience in data entry, basic HTML
formatting, and content preparation for website integration, preferably with
exposure to scientific datasets.
Project Tenure: Up to 12.06.2027
Total Monthly Emoluments: Rs. 20000/- + HRA

Desirable Experience:
Position 1: Experience in analyzing gene expression using RT-qPCR and
reporter assays in engineered microbial systems.
Position 2: Experience in revival and authenticity check of microbial strains,
PCR, long-term preservation and documentation of growth parameters, and
in providing cultures to third parties using the inhouse SOPs.
Project Tenure: Up to 12.06.2027
Total Monthly Emoluments: Rs. 25000/- + HRA

Ph.D/MD/MS/MDS or equivalent degree or having 3 years of research,
teaching and design and development experience after MVSc/ M.Pharm/
ME/ M.Tech with at least one research paper in Science Citation Indexed
(SCI) journal.
Desirable Experience:
A.1: Experience in molecular cloning, plasmid construction, and
transformation techniques in various host/chassis organisms.
A.2: Experience in microbial DNA and RNA extraction, PCR-based assays,
library preparations and analysis of genomics and metatranscriptomics data.

Total Monthly Emoluments: Rs. 58000/- + HRA

Organisations and Scientific activities and services
OR
Doctoral Degree in Science / Engineering / Technology / Pharma/
MD / MS from a recognized University or equivalent.
Desirable Experience:
Position 1: Experience in genetic manipulation using recombinant DNA
techniques, plasmid construction, and transformation in microbial hosts.
Position 2: Experience in extraction and profiling of microbial metabolites
using GC-MS and interpretation of metabolic data from engineered strains.
Position 3: Experience in high-volume microbial culture handling,
passaging, and revivability checks for long-term maintenance.
Position 4: Expertise in culturing and maintaining anaerobic, cyanobacterial,
and photoautotrophic microbes under controlled lab conditions.
Project Tenure: Up to 12.06.2027
Total Monthly Emoluments: Rs. 42000/- + HRA

molecular methods, and strain characterization.
Position 2. Experience in high-throughput screening of microbial strains for
enzyme production.
Position 3. Experience in genome assembly, annotation, and comparative
analysis using bioinformatics tools.
Position 4. Skilled in microbial strain isolation, cultivation, long-term
preservation, and lyophilization techniques for repository-grade cultures.
Project Tenure: Up to 12.06.2027
Total Monthly Emoluments: Rs. 28000/- + HRA

Desirable Experience:
Position 1: Proficient in systems biology approaches including genome-scale
metabolic modelling, multi-omics data integration, and computational simulations
for strain design. Should have experience with tools such as MATLAB, R, Python,
and relevant bioinformatics pipelines.
Position 2: Comprehensive understanding of microbial resource management with
proven experience in handling large-scale culture collections, coordinating
deposition and supply logistics, preparing technical reports, and curating microbial
data. Familiarity with regulatory frameworks, documentation practices, and
microbial databases is essential.
Project Tenure: Up to 12.06.2027

Position 1: Experience in microbial strain improvement and performance
evaluation using small-scale bioreactors and fermentation systems.
Position 2: In-depth experience in microbial genome sequencing using nextgeneration sequencing platforms, genome assembly, annotation pipelines,
and comparative genomics. Familiarity with microbial taxonomy, genome
quality assessment, and databases such as NCBI, IMG, and GTDB is
essential.
Position 3: Proven experience in isolation, cultivation, and molecular
characterization of cyanobacteria, photoautotrophs, and anaerobic microbes
under controlled conditions.
Project Tenure: Up to 12.06.2027

with genome editing tools like CRISPR, plasmid construction, and pathway
engineering. Familiarity with transcriptomic analysis and regulatory element
optimization is desirable.

Total Monthly Emoluments: Consolidated Rs. 1,50,000/- pm.

Desirable Experience:
Candidates having experience in handling small animals like mice, cell culture
techniques, flow cytometry, and immunological assays will be preferred.

& Experience:
Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science or Graduate / Post Graduate Degree in
Professional Course selected through a process described through any one of the
following:
i. Scholars who are selected through National Eligibility Tests – CSIR-UGC
NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) and/or GATE.
ii. The selection process through National Level examinations conducted by
Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions such
as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER,
NISER etc.
Desirable Experience:
Candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas will be
preferred to work on an exciting project in neurodegenerative diseases
• PCR/ Primer design, site-directed mutagenesis, cloning, and DNA
sequence analysis.
• Experience with E. coli or mammalian cell-based protein purification
methods using automated systems.
• Experience with mammalian cell culture including iPSC culture
Expected to have precise pipetting skills and a strong interest to learn data
analysis.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet
deadlines.

GATE.
ii. The selection process through National Level examinations
conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies
and Institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE,
ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, NISER etc.
Desirable Experience:
Candidate should be knowing basic molecular biology skills (cloning,
Protein purification).
