Vacancy for research personnel in various projects

Sálim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON), South India Centre of Wildlife Institute of India (WII) under the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India, wishes to engage the following research personnel (Indian Nationals only) on purely temporary basis. - Project Title: COMPREHENSIVE CONSERVATION PLAN FOR THE ENDEMIC AND TREE CAVITY NESTING BIRDS OF NICOBAR ARCHIPELAGO [PI – Dr. S. Babu]
1(a). SENIOR PROJECT ASSOCIATE
• No. of Positions: ONE (1)
• Duration: One year (likely to be extended)
• Essential Qualifications: Post-Graduate degree (M.Sc.) or its equivalent with a minimum of 55% marks in life sciences or environmental sciences (Zoology/ Wildlife Biology/ Wildlife Science/ Forestry/ Conservation Biology/ Biodiversity Studies/ Ecological Sciences/ Environmental Studies or any other allied disciplines) from a recognized university, AND ii) Four years of post-PG research experience in relevant scientific projects and activities;
OR
Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in any allied disciplines of life sciences or environmental sciences from a recognized university.
• Desirable Qualifications: i) Good research experience in studying avian ecology and conservation; ii) proficiency in bird survey methods and sampling design, and familiarity with ecological concepts related to island ecosystems; iii) willingness to reside in remote locations with challenging conditions, and travel extensively by both road and sea between the islands; iv) skill in data analysis, including R programming and GIS tools; and vi) proficiency in English (speaking, reading, and writing) and Hindi (speaking).
• Upper Age Limit as on 30-08-2025: 40 Years
• Monthly Emoluments: Rs.57,000 + HRA.
• Description of Work: Selected persons will be expected i) to coordinate project activities and implement the project objectives on the ground in remote areas of Andaman and Nicobar Islands; ii) to help the junior project staff to achieve their project goals; iii) to collate and analyze field data on endemic and cavity-nesting birds of the island ecosystems and draft project reports; iv) to work closely with the forest department and local communities to develop sustainable conservation/management plan; and v) to assist the Project Investigator in achieving project goals and other institutional activities.
- Project Title: CONSERVING THE OVERLOOKED SUBTERRANEAN CAVE HABITAT: A SUSTAINABILITY APPROACH [PIs – Dr. Manchi Shirish S. & Dr. Jaishri Sanwal Bhatt, JNCASR]
2(a). PROJECT ASSOCIATE-I
• No. of Positions: ONE (1)
• Duration: Until 31st March, 2027
• Essential Qualification: Post-graduate degree with a minimum of 55% marks in life sciences or environmental sciences (Zoology/Wildlife Biology/Wildlife Science/ Conservation Biology/Biodiversity Studies/Forestry/Ecological Sciences/Environmental Studies or any other allied disciplines) from a recognized university.
• Desirable Qualifications: i) Keen interest in cave studies and karst conservation; ii) skill in identification/classification of invertebrates and in sampling and preserving techniques; iii) willingness to reside in remote locations with challenging conditions, and travel extensively by both road and sea between the islands; iv) proficiency in cave exploration and mapping, SRT technique, free climbing, and rock climbing; v) familiarity with data analysis and GIS tools; and vi) proficiency in Hindi.
• Upper Age Limit as on 30-08-2025: 35 Years
• Fellowship: Rs.37,000 + HRA for CSIR-UGC NET (Lectureship)/GATE qualified candidates and Rs. 30,000 + HRA for non-NET/GATE qualified candidates.
• Description of Work: Selected person will be expected i) to conduct faunal surveys in remote caves with limited resources in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, ii) to collect and analyze data on cave and karst ecosystems, iii) to assist with social surveys to understand local cave and karst conservation perspectives, iv) to work closely with the forest department and local communities to develop sustainable conservation plans, and v) to assist Project Investigators in achieving project goals and other institutional activities.
- Project Title: STUDY OF BIODIVERSITY AT THE PROPOSED LIMESTONE MINING SITE OF TAMIN IN PERIYANAGALUR, ARIYALUR, TAMIL NADU [PI – Dr. P.R. Arun]
3(a). PROJECT ASSOCIATE-II
• No. of Positions: ONE (1)
• Duration: One year
• Essential Qualification: Post-Graduate degree (M.Sc.) or its equivalent with a minimum of 55% marks in life sciences or environmental sciences (Zoology/ Wildlife Biology/ Wildlife Science/ Forestry/ Conservation Biology/ Biodiversity Studies/ Ecological Sciences/ Environmental Studies or any other allied disciplines) from a recognized university, AND ii) Two years of post-PG research experience in relevant scientific projects and activities.
• Desirable Qualifications: i) Keen interest in biodiversity studies and surveys; ii) skill in field identification of various wildlife taxa; iii) experience in biodiversity documentation and impact assessment studies; iii) ability to work independently in the field; iv) willingness to reside in remote locations with challenging conditions; and iv) proficiency in Tamil.
• Upper Age Limit as on 30-08-2025: 35 Years
• Fellowship: Rs.35,000 + HRA for CSIR-UGC NET (Lectureship)/GATE qualified candidates and Rs. 28,000 + HRA for non-NET/GATE qualified candidates [as per CSIR Guidelines].
• Description of Work: Selected person will be expected i) to conduct biodiversity surveys in remote project sites, ii) to collect and analyze data for biodiversity documentation, and iii) to assist Project Investigators in achieving project goals and other institutional activities.

- The upper age limit may be relaxed as per the Government of India norms [up to 5 years in the case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/Physically Handicapped categories and female applicants, whereas up to 3 years in the case of OBC candidates].
- Selected candidates will be provided with hostel accommodation at SACON as per availability. Other allowances and benefits to the research personnel will be admissible as per the rules
