The National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS) is an autonomous institution of Department of
Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, for a mandate of basic
research, teaching & training, and as a national repository for cell lines/hybridomas etc. The Centre is
located in the midst of academically enriched environment of Savitribai Phule Pune University
Campus, Pune. NCCS invites applications for following posts on various extramural projects purely
on temporary basis.

Name of the Post: Project Associate – I
Number of posts: 01 (One)
Name of the Project: VAPB at membrane contact sites: ALS-FTD at the crossroads of ER stress,
proteostasis, lipid homeostasis and inflammation.
Name of the PI: Dr. Jomon Joseph
Essential Qualification &
Experience:
Master’s Degree in Natural or Agricultural Sciences / MVSc or bachelor’s
degree in Engineering or Technology or Medicine from a recognized
University or equivalent.
Desirable Experience: A minimum of one year research experience using model organisms/systems,
molecular biology, cell biology and/or experience working with Drosophila,
including genetic and behavioural experiments.
Project Tenure: Up to 28/02/2029
Total Monthly Emoluments:
i) Rs. 31000/- + HRA to Scholars who are selected through
(a) National Eligibility Tests – CSIR-UGC NET including
lectureship (Assistant Professorship) or GATE or
(b) A selection process through National level examinations
conducted by Central Government Departments and their
Agencies and Institutions.
ii) Rs. 25000/- + HRA for others who do not fall under (i) above.
Age limit: Not more than 35 years as on 03.11.2025.

Desirable Experience:
i. Minimum 6 months experience working with flies or other animal
model.
ii. Interest or experience in a neuroscience lab.
Project Tenure: Up to 28/02/2029
Total Monthly Emoluments:
i. Rs. 31000/- + HRA to Scholars who are selected through

6 months or more.
ii. Basic knowledge of genetics and interest in Neuroscience.

Experience: B.Sc. / 3 years Diploma in Engineering & Technology.
Desirable Experience:
Desirable candidates should have hands-on skills in culture handling,
molecular techniques, and basic analytical assays. Eager to learn genomics,
strain characterization, and laboratory data documentation, demonstrating
good teamwork and attention to detail.
Project Tenure: Up to 12.06.2027
Total Monthly Emoluments: Rs. 20000/- + HRA

Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology or Medicine
from a recognized University or equivalent;
AND
ii) Four years’ experience in Research and Development in Industrial and
Academic Institutions or Science and Technology Organisations
and Scientific activities and services
OR
Doctoral Degree in Science / Engineering / Technology / Pharma/
MD / MS from a recognized University or equivalent.
Desirable Experience:
Position 1: Basic experience in microbial cloning, plasmid handling, and gene
expression studies. Should be able to perform routine checks using HPLC/GCMS outputs.
Position 2: Hands-on exposure to microbial cultivation, media preparation,
and small-scale fermentation.
Position 3: Familiarity with genome/transcriptome data handling and use of
basic bioinformatics tools. Should be able to assist in data curation, sequence
analysis, and database entry tasks.
Project Tenure: Up to 12.06.2027
Total Monthly Emoluments: Rs. 42000/- + HRA

relevant field.
Desirable Experience:
Strong foundation in synthetic biology and microbial engineering with handson experience in genome editing tools (e.g., CRISPR-Cas systems),
construction of genetic circuits, and development of microbial chassis for
targeted industrial applications. Expertise in genetic engineering, metabolic
pathway reconstruction, and molecular cloning, with exposure to
transformation systems, promoter optimization, and vector design for
functional expression in diverse hosts.
Project Tenure: Up to 12.06.2027
Total Monthly Emoluments: Consolidated Rs. 1,50,000/- pm.
Age limit: 45 to 50 years as on 03.11.2025.

Desirable candidates should have hands-on experience in molecular biology
techniques, metabolic engineering, and analytical validation for bioprocess
optimization using model and non-model microorganisms. Should be familiar
with systems biology approaches, omics data integration, and computational
tools for pathway reconstruction and strain improvement.

Experience:
i) Doctoral Degree in Science or Master’s Degree in Engineering or
Technology from a recognized University or equivalent;
and
ii) Seven years’ experience in Research and Development in Industrial
and Academic Institutions or Science and Technology
Organizations and Scientific activities and services.
Desirable Experience:
Position 1: Experience in microbial genome editing and pathway engineering
to construct optimized chassis strains. Capable of designing and validating
synthetic circuits with direct metabolite confirmation using analytical tools.
Position 2: Proven skills in fermentation design, scale-up strategies, and realtime process optimization in bioreactors. Hands-on ability to maximize
enzyme yields through controlled cultivation and statistical design approaches.
Experience in handling HPLC and GC-MS is plus.
Position 3: Proficiency in developing and curating genomic/ transcriptomic
databases to map enzyme functions and pathways. Ability to integrate multiomics datasets with predictive models for strain selection and future
improvements.
Project Tenure: Up to 12.06.2027
Total Monthly Emoluments: Rs. 78000/- + HRA

Experience:
Doctoral Degree in Science or Master’s Degree in Engineering or Technology

Desirable Experience:
Experience in microbial genomics and transcriptomics data analysis with
proficiency in NGS data processing, genome assembly, annotation, and
differential gene expression workflows. Strong expertise in R/Python-based
bioinformatics, database management systems (SQL/MySQL), and integration
of microbial phenotypic and genetic data. Demonstrated experience in
publishing computational pipelines, and ability to collaborate with
experimental teams for systems-level biological insights.
Project Tenure: Up to 12.06.2027
Total Monthly Emoluments: Rs. 56000/- + HRA
