About The Topic 

Molecular Phylogeny is a branch of taxonomy which predicts the ancestral relationship/evolutionary history of a group of organisms by comparing & analyzing their biological macromolecules .i.e. DNA, RNA and Proteins.

The Molecular Phylogenetics not only became an indispensable tools to deduce evolutionary relationship among organisms but also it has wide range of application in various field of science such as: Applied Forensic, in identifying origin of epidemic diseases and insight about evolution of protein structure and functions, origin and migration of various life form around the world. Molecular Phylogenetics usually involves rigorous analysis of Biological macro-molecules by various bioinformatics algorithm to deduce meaningful scientific insight, ultimately help us to develop new hypothesis about origin of evolution.

In these 3 day of session the participants will learn about the all theoretical concept of Molecular Phylogenetics with analysis using various tools/softwares of basic and Bayesian Phylogenetics.

At the end of the workshop you will be able to know

ü  Understand the fundamental concept of phylogenetic analysis, using real case studies.

ü  How to choose the right sequence for phylogenetic analysis.

ü  How to construct the Phylogenetic tree using by various methods and tools.

ü  How to choose the right method to construct phylogenetic tree.

ü  Estimation of time of divergence and Molecular clock calibration

ü  Concept of Bayesian Phylogenetics and use of  Related tools.

ü  Testing reliability of phylogenetic tree

ü  How extract meaningful information from a phylogenetic tree.

ü  Introduction to Bayesian Phylogenetic analysis

 Course Curriculum

Day-1

    

·         Theory session: Concept  and method in  Molecular Phylogenetics

·         Hands-on session: Retrieving sequence of phylogenetic markers from sequence  database and construction of MSA.

·         Phylogenetic Analysis using  MEGA, from tree construction to validation using various methods 

Day-2   Hands on session

Testing neutral selection.

    Testing molecular clock

    Building time tree with fossil data calibration  

Day-3 Theory and Hands on session 

 Introduction to the concept of Bayesian Phylogenetics

  Using Bayesian  Phylogenetics Tools(Mr.Bayes or  Beast) and  interpretation of result.

 Question/Answer and Discussion Session.
