Computational Biology JRF Opening @ BITS Pilani

Applications are invited for a 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗙𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 (𝗝𝗥𝗙) position under the 𝗔𝗡𝗥𝗙-𝗣𝗠𝗘𝗖𝗥𝗚-funded project titled:

“𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿-𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵”

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄

This project focuses on advancing the prediction and annotation of 𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 (𝗔𝗠𝗣𝘀) by incorporating insights from 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 (𝗜𝗗𝗥𝘀)—a relatively underexplored yet biologically significant aspect. AMPs are increasingly recognized as promising 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 in the face of rising 𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, an emerging global health crisis. In this context, improving AMP annotation and prediction has significant translational potential.

The work will involve:

• Meta-analysis of biological datasets

• Development of machine learning models

• Designing predictive computational frameworks

• Building user-friendly web servers/tools for broader scientific community

𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁

The position is based in the 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗔 𝗟𝗮𝗯 (Biological Data and Analytics Lab), which works at the intersection of biology, data science, and computational modelling. The lab focuses on uncovering sequence–structure–function relationships in proteins and their relevance to human diseases, with an emphasis on interpretable and impactful solutions.

𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀

• Master’s degree in Bioinformatics / Biotechnology / Computational Biology / or related field from a recognized university/institute (first class or equivalent)

• Background in basic mathematics (at least at 10+2 / UG level)

• Working knowledge of at least one programming language (preferred)

• Genuine enthusiasm to learn, un-learn and re-learn as and when necessary

𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀

• Past experience of working in computational biology projects

• Strong motivation to learn, adapt and continuously upgrade skills

𝗘𝗺𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀

• ₹37,000/month (consolidated) for candidates with CSIR-UGC NET / GATE qualification

• ₹30,000/month (consolidated) for candidates without NET/GATE

𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

On-campus accommodation may be provided as per institute norms and subject to availability.
