University of Mumbai - Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS) is an aided institute of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Govt. of India. Established in 2007, located on the Kalina campus of the University of Mumbai, Mumbai. UM-DAE CEBS offers a 5-year residential integrated M.Sc. programme with a DAE Fellowship, as well as a multi-disciplinary Ph.D. programme for training students in addressing basic science and societally relevant research problems. 

With several state-of-the-art research facilities on its campus, a dynamic academic atmosphere, and strong research collaborations with nearby premier research institutes, UM-DAE CEBS is an ideal destination for those seeking to pursue a research career in Basic and Applied Sciences. 

The Centre invites online applications from eligible Indian Nationals for the positions of Assistant Professor, Reader, and Associate Professor. Applicants should possess relevant work experience and an excellent academic record, including high-quality publications in reputed journals and relevant teaching experience.

School of Biological Sciences (Number of Posts: 4; Assistant Professors-2, Reader-1, Associate Professor -1) 

Post code B01: Microbiology (Experimental) – (1 Assistant Professor) 

Research areas: Conduct fundamental and applied research on microorganisms, investigating their physiology, genetics, evolution, and ecology. Teaching: Should be able to teach courses such as Microbiology, Genetics, Ecology and Evolution 

Post code B02: Immunology / Neurobiology (Experimental) - (1 Assistant Professor) 

Research areas: Conduct fundamental and translational research on the immune/nervous system, encompassing their development, function, and interactions, to advance the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases affecting human neurological or immunological functions. Teaching: Should be able to teach courses such as Immunology/Neurobiology, Developmental Biology, and Animal Physiology 

Post code B03: Computational Biology / Bioinformatics (Theory) - (1 Reader) 

Research areas: Development and application of computational, statistical, and mathematical approaches to analyze, model, and interpret complex biological data. Design and implement novel algorithms, software, and databases for efficient data processing, visualization, and interpretation. Teaching: Should be able to teach courses such as Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, and Computational Biology Post code B04: Applied Biology / Disease Biology (Experimental) - (1 Associate Professor) Research areas: Advanced understanding of disease biology to prevent, detect, and control diseases affecting human or plant health using molecular biotechnology approaches. Environmental & Ecological Applications, Synthetic biology & metabolic engineering Teaching: Should be able to teach courses such as Biotechnology and Molecular Biology 

School of Chemical Sciences (Number of Posts: 3; Assistant Professor-1, Reader-1, Associate Professor-1) 

Post Code C01: Ultrafast Photochemistry (Experimental) - (1 Reader) 

Research areas: Ultrafast photo-dynamics of Organic/Inorganic materials Teaching: Should be able to teach courses such as Basic Physical Chemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Spectroscopy, Photochemistry, etc. 

Post Code C02: Physical Chemistry (Theoretical) - (1 Associate Professor) 3 

Research areas: Quantum Chemistry / Computer Simulations, etc. Teaching: Should be able to teach courses such as Quantum Chemistry, Thermodynamics, Computational Chemistry, Mathematics for Chemists, etc. 

Post Code C03: Organic / Inorganic Chemistry (Experimental) (1 Assistant Professor) 

Research areas: Natural Product Synthesis / Asymmetric Synthesis / Main Group Chemistry / Organometallic Chemistry/ Materials Chemistry. Teaching: Should be able to teach courses such as Heterocyclic Chemistry, Natural Products Synthesis, Stereochemistry / Organometallic Chemistry and other Inorganic Chemistry courses at different levels. 

School of Mathematical Sciences (Number of Posts: 4; Reader-2, Assistant Professor-2) 

Post Code M01: Algebra / Number Theory and Lie Theory - (2 Readers) 

Research areas: Algebra, Algebraic Geometry, Representation Theory, and Applications - related themes OR Number Theory, Lie Theory and related themes Teaching: Should be able to teach courses such as Algebra at all levels, and advanced courses in some related areas. OR Number Theory and basic courses in Algebra and Analysis / Algebra and Cryptography. 

Post Code M02: Analysis / Discrete Mathematics and Probability Theory - (2 Assistant Professors) 

Research areas: Analysis, Differential Geometry, Differential Equations, and related themes OR Discrete Mathematics, Probability Theory, and related themes Teaching: Should be able to teach courses such as Analysis at the basic level, Measure Theory, and advanced courses in some related areas OR Probability Theory, and basic courses in Algebra, Discrete Mathematics and Graph Theory, and some suitable applied areas.

Research areas: High-Energy Physics / Cosmology / Astrophysics Teaching: Should be able to teach courses such as Classical Mechanics, Quantum Mechanics, Field Theory, Statistical Mechanics, Mathematical Physics, and Electrodynamics. 

Post Code P02: Quantum Condensed Matter Physics (Experimental) - (1 Assistant Professor) 

Research areas: Quantum Magnetism and Topological Phases / Quantum Phase Transition / 2-D Quantum Materials, etc. Teaching: Should be able to teach courses such as Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Quantum Mechanics, Condensed Matter Physics, and Statistical Mechanics.
