(K) M.Phil./PhD. in areas of interdisciplinary research in molecular Biology, genetic engineering, plant biotechnology, genetics, developmental biology, cell biology, immunology, neurobiology, microbiology, radiation and cancer biology, bio-physics and structural biology.
Eligibility: This programme is open to candidates having M.Sc. or equivalent degree with at least 55% marks or equivalent grades, in Biological Sciences or Physical Sciences, as well as to those with M.B.B.S. or M.Tech. or M.Sc. (Agriculture) or M.Sc. (Veterinary Sciences) degree with 55% marks. Candidates having M.Sc. or equivalent degree in allied subjects of Life Sciences including Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biotechnology, Botany, Genetics, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Physiology, Zoology, or in Chemistry or Physics are considered eligible.
(L) M.Sc. in Life Sciences: An integrated interdisciplinary programme in Modern Biology.
Eligibility: Bachelor's degree (B.Sc. or equivalent) in Biological, Physical or Agricultural Sciences under 10+2+3 pattern of education or B.Tech. With at least 55% marks.
SCHOOL OF Biotechnology
(V) Pre-Ph.D./PhD. Gene Transfer and Expression in Eukaryotic system, Transcription Control and Gene Regulation, Protein Engineering, Molecular Biology of Infectious Diseases, Molecular Immunology, Protein Stability, Conformation & Folding, Optimization of Recombinant Protein Production, Structural Biology & Molecular Bioinformatics, and Biochemical Engineering.
Eligibility: Master's degree in Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, and Biochemistry, Chemistry or any branch of Biological Sciences with at least 55% marks.
Centre for Molecular Medicine
(Y) Pre-PhD /PhD in Areas of Metobolic Disorders, Infectious Diseases, Diagnostics and Molecular EndocrinologyEligibility: Master's degree in any branch of biological sciences/ MBBS/B.V.Sc/B.Pharma. degree with at least 55% marks.
The University will hold Entrance Examination on May 15, 16, 17 and 18, 2008 for admission to various full-time programmes of study at the following 51 cities:
Exam centers: Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Allahabad, Amritsar, Bangalore, Bareilly, Bhubaneshwar, Calicut, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Dehradun, Delhi, Gangtok, Guwahati, Goa, Gorakhpur, Gwalior, Hyderabad, Imphal, Indore, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Katihar, Kohima, Kolkata, Luck now, Madurai, Mumbai, Nagpur, Noida, Pant Nagar, Patna, Pondicherry, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Sambalpur, Secunderabad (A.P.), Shillong, Shimla, Siliguri (Distt. Jalpaiguri), Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, Udaipur, Vadodara, Varanasi, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. In addition, the University will hold entrance examination at Kathmandu (Nepal). (The University reserves the right to change/cancel any centre of examination without assigning any reason.)
GENERAL INFORMATION
Foreign Nationals: All foreign nationals present in India are required to appear in the Entrance Examination subject to their fulfilling minimum eligibility requirements as prescribed for Indian students as indicated under Category 'A' above. However, in the event of their selection, they will be considered for admission subject to equivalence of their degrees as per eligibility requirements.
Reservation of seats : 15% seats for SC, 7.5% seats for ST and 3% seats for PH (Physically Challenged (Handicapped) (with a minimum of 40% disability) are reserved for candidates belonging to these categories. All SC, ST and Physically Challenged (Handicapped) candidates who have passed and/or are appearing in the qualifying examination are eligible to appear in the entrance examination irrespective of their percentage of marks.
Candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes (who do not belong to creamy layer and whose parents are not income tax payees) will be eligible for deprivation points. The Government of India has proposed to reserve seats for candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC) starting from academic year 2008-09. The same would be implemented as and when the Government order for the same is received and approved by the Academic Council. In such a situation, University reserves the right to withdraw or modify the provision of deprivation points as per the approval of the Academic Council of the University. Besides, all candidates who have passed qualifying examination prescribed for admission to the concerned programme of study from the identified backward districts will be eligible for deprivation points. All Kashmiri migrants and wards/widows of certain categories of Defence Personnel will be eligible for deprivation points subject to their submitting a documentary evidence of their status (For details, refer to Chapter V of Prospectus). Only those candidates will be eligible for deprivation points as stated above who seek admission through Entrance Examination.
Candidates should clearly indicate “CATEGORY A” on the self addressed envelope, the Category for which the Application Form is required by them. Candidates can opt up to a maximum of three Fields of Study in a single Application Form for the same level of Programmes i.e. COP (Part-Time) or B.A. (Hons.) (1st Year) or M.A./M.Sc./MCA or M.Phil/Ph.D., Pre-Ph.D. /Ph.D., M.Tech./Ph.D.,M.P.H./Ph.D., and are not required to submit separate Application Forms. In case a candidate submits more than one Application Form for the same level of programmes of study, his/her candidature will be out rightly rejected. However, this restriction will not apply to candidates who apply for Direct Admission to Ph.D. programme under Category-B above, JRF holders to M.Phil./PhD. and Pre-Ph.D./PhD. programmes under Category-C above and Diploma/Advanced Diploma of Proficiency (Part-Time Programmes) under Category-D above. Candidates are required to submit separate Application Form for each Field of Study For admission to B.A. (Hons.) 2nd Year under category A above, Direct Admission to Ph.D. programme under Category-B above, JRF holders to M.Phil/PhD. and Pre-Ph.D./PhD. under Category-C above and for Diploma and Advanced Diploma (Part-Time) programmes under Category-D above.

How To Apply:
Sets of Application Form and Prospectus can be had (i) either personally from the Counter in the Administrative Block of the University on cash payment of Rs. 120/- per set from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. on all working days (Monday to Friday); or (ii) through post by sending crossed Bank Draft (valid for six months i.e. up to 15.07.08) for Rs. 200/- in favour of Jawaharlal Nehru University payable at New Delhi along with a self-addressed (unstamped) envelope of the minimum size of 30 cms X 25 cms clearly indicating the Category for which the Application Form is required on the self-addressed envelope to the Assistant registrar (admissions), Room No. 28, Admission Branch, Administrative Block, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi-110067. Candidates seeking Application Form and Prospectus from Nepal are required to send a bank draft of Indian Rs.300/- or equivalent in US Dollars. Money Orders and Cheques are not accepted.

Note:
1. Candidates who are due to appear in respective qualifying examination prescribed for eligibility for admission to a particular programme are also eligible to appear in the entrance examination. In the event of their selection, they will be admitted only if their results of the qualifying examination are declared before 14th August, 2008 and they fulfill the minimum eligibility requirements as prescribed in the prospectus.
2. The candidates for admission to the M.A./M.Sc/MCA programmes who have obtained their Bachelor's degree under the pattern of education other than 10+2+3 would be considered eligible for admission only if they have successfully completed the first year of Master's degree programme or a bridge course in lieu thereof, wherever prescribed, by a recognised University in the relevant discipline with prescribed percentage of marks.
3. The University does not offer correspondence courses.
4. While the University, on its part, shall ensure timely dispatch of Application Forms soon after receipt of the request from intending candidates, it will, however, not accept responsibility for any postal delay or irregularity or loss in postal transit.
5. Any dispute with regard to any matter relating to admission shall be subject to the jurisdiction of Delhi Courts only.
