Most PhD students in the Netherlands are fully sponsored by their university. They receive a salary and benefits. The starting salary of a PhD student is €2.280 ($3,420) a month which can increase up to €3.600 ($5,400) a month. Every year Dutch research universities have about 3.500 PhD positions available, open to applicants from all over the world. Besides PhD positions, there are also scholarship opportunities for PhD students who wish to do (part) of their research at a Dutch University.
