Minimum Eligibility for General Candidates
Postgraduates in Life Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences and medicine graduates.
Applicants must have a consistently first class academic track record (no less than 60% aggregates) and a valid research fellowship from UGC/CSIR/ICMR/DBT or other recognized funding agencies.Candidates with MB.BS, MD, MTech, MVSc. MPharm and MSc (Agriculture) can apply even though they do not have a research fellowship. Such candidates if selected at the interview will be allowed to provisionally join for RGCB’s PhD program and supported by the institute. They will also be encouraged to obtain a suitable Senior Research Fellowship or similar funding.
Minimum Eligibility for Candidates already selected to and working in RGCB’s extramurally funded research programs and without valid research fellowships
Postgraduates in Life Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences and MBBS graduates.
Applicants must have a consistently first class academic track record (no less than 60% aggregates). NET or GATE or Kerala University PhD entrance examination pass certification or any other eligibility to register for PhD with University of Kerala.
Employed in a funded research project at RGCB that has a minimum of two years left for completion as on June 1, 2008.
PhD registration will only be offered with the Principal Investigator of the concerned project. RGCB will not be responsible for any financial assistance once the concerned project/grant is over. Such candidates who fail to obtain other research fellowships or funding will not be permitted to stay or work in the institute.
Applications for internal candidates are available from the Director’s office. The concerned Principal Investigator must countersign the application.
Applicants fulfilling the above stipulations will be asked to appear for a selection test on Friday May 31, 2008 at 10 am.
Short listed candidates will be announced at 3 pm on the same day and asked to appear for a selection interview on June 15, 2008
Research fellows with all above stipulations and who have professional degrees (MSc Agriculture, MTech, MPharm, MVSc, MBBS or MD) may be short-listed for interview directly.
Selection Procedure
Short listed students will be invited to RGCB for a selection interview. No TA or DA will be paid for attending the interview. Candidates will be ranked at the selection interview on a total mark of 100.
Candidates will be evaluated for overall knowledge in subject of specialization, overall knowledge in research methodology, instrumentation and laboratory calculations, overall knowledge in applications of biotechnology, general research aptitude and ability to comprehend & solve research questions as well as presentation & communication skills
Each selection committee member makes his or her own evaluation. The average of all such evaluation sheets will be consolidated. Based on this, the Dean and Director will prepare a rank list. Only students scoring over 70% will be offered admission to RGCB’s PhD program irrespective of the number of vacancies and number of applicants.
