Head and 3 Postdocs in Molecular Immunology @ Thrombosis Research Institute

THROMBOSIS RESEARCH INSTITUTE (TRI)
BANGALORE

The Trustees of the TRI in Bangalore and UK have established research instistute in Bangalore, with state of the art facilities in clinical research, biostatistics, coagulation, molecular immunology, proteomics, bioinformatics and and functional genomics.

The current and rapidly progressing research programs devoted to research in the molecular basis of cardiovascular disease and the development of innovative therapy including a vaccine for the prevention of heart disease and stroke.

Its current staff of 33 consists of Sectional Heads, Postdoctoral Research Fellows, Research Assistants and support staff.

Head, Molecular Immunology

The main project of the Institute is to develop a vaccine for immune modulation of atheroma
(Atherovac®) and thus prevent heart disease and stroke. This on-going joint programme involves 12 senior scientists in London, Budapest and Bangalore. Already very significant progress has been made in developing a prototype vaccine. Unique facilities are available for interacting with research groups already involved in this project.

Candidates should have a Ph D in immunology with relevant post-doctoral experience in areas related to dendritic cell biology, immune modulation and immunity to infections and atherosclerosis. It is desirable to have candidates with proven ability to conduct independent research in vaccine development.

Post-doctoral Research Fellows

The Institute is conducting one of the largest family based studies, Indian Atherosclerosis Research Study (IARS) designed to include 12,500 subjects with the broad aim of assessing the heritability of atherothrombotic phenotypes, genetic epidemiology of premature coronary heart disease and ischaemic stroke and development of novel biomarkers to identify at risk subjects. To date, 6500 subjects have been enrolled.

The post-doctoral research fellows will work in the Functional Genomics, Proteomics and Coagulation and Molecular Immunology units, should be able to work as part of a team and have relevant research experience of 3–4 years, together with a strong publication record.

Salary will be according to post-graduate research experience and age, and will include benefits of house and travel allowance, provident fund and medical insurance.
