MTech Bioinformatics
This is a two year advanced course driven masters' programme with opportunities for project work in the final semester. Apart from core competency courses for bioinformatics, this program provides a choice of electives both from the biology as well as IT domains. Several of these electives are project based. A student may be allowed to replace thesis credits with project based electives.
Students from BTech (CSE)/MSc (Maths) interested in applying for MTech (Bioinformatics) program may take Computer Science/Maths as subject paper.
Eligibility criteria: BE/BTech in CS/IT/Biotech/Bioinformatics or Master's degree in Maths, Science or Programming.
MS by Research (Bioinformatics)
This is a research driven masters program meant for candidates with an exceptional background in one of the bioinformatics related domains. The duration of the course may extend beyond 2 yrs. Based on the decision of the academic committee, some of the core courses prescribed for the M Tech program may be waived for MS by research students, depending on their background. They must however fulfill the minimum credit requirements for electives and thesis respectively.
Eligibility criteria: BE/BTech in CS/IT/Biotech/Bioinformatics or Master's degree in Maths, Science or Programming.
Students admitted to the program have to complete a course work followed by breadth and depth examinations apart from the thesis work. The expected duration is between 3 - 5yrs.

Admission Procedure
Admission to PG programmes will be on the basis of the performance at the Post-Graduate And PhD Entrance Examination (PGEE 2009) and an interview to be held at Hyderabad. However, for the research programmes i.e., Ph.D. and M.S. by Research programmes, exceptional candidates may be called directly for the interview on the basis of their application.
Post-Graduate Entrance Examination (PGEE 2009):
An all-India examination to test the preparedness of the applicants will be held on February, 2009. The examination will be held at Hyderabad and a number of major cities in the country depending on the number of applicants from each region. The entrance examination will consist of two papers. Paper I test the general aptitude of the candidate and will consist of objective questions from Mathematics, Programming, and Logical Reasoning. Paper II is the Subject Paper, which tests the candidate's subject knowledge.
How To Apply ?
All applications should be made through the Post-Graduate Admissions Portal.Simply mailing the application fee is not good enough.
You have to go through two phases of registration :-
- Pre Registration Form.
- Main Registration Form.
First fill the Pre Registration form. Then you will get an E-Mail which will have a link and Confirmation Code. Follow that link and use the confirmation code to login, then fill the Main Registration Form.
Remember that your Registration WILL NOT be considered untill you go through the Main Registration Form. After filling the Main Registration Form, you will get an Acknowledgement Mail, which implies that your registration is complete. Purpose of Pre-Pregistration Form is to Confirm your Email-ID so fill your VALID E-Mail ID as it will be used for later communication. You can change, update or modify your registration, if you like, later by following the same link which will be mailed to you after pre registration form. The same link will be given in the Acknowledgement Mail also. Everytime you update or modify your information you will get an Updated Acknowledge Mail. Remember you will not be allowed to change your Personal Information so fill it with care on the first time itself.
- Please check the acknowledgement mails in your "Bulk" or "Junk" folders also, because sometimes it may go there.
Applicants can apply for one or more programmes in the same form by indicating choices. The application fee is Rs. 1000/- for one programme and Rs. 50/- extra for each additional programme applied for. Application fee in the form of a demand draft drawn in favor of IIIT, Hyderabad.You can send demand draft only after submission of your application through online.Write application number and name of the applicant on the reverse side of the demand draft and send it to the Chairman, PG Admissions, IIIT, Gachibowli, Hyderabad-500032, A.P.

The tuition fee for all post-graduate programmes is Rs 62,500 per semester .
Financial Aid:
Full financial aid in the form of tuition and stipend is available as teaching or research assistantships to deserving candidates of MS by Research and PhD. These will cover all or part of the tuition fees and living expenses. We expect to provide financial assistance to all students during their research work. Partial support is available in the form of teaching assistantship to MTech students in their second year based on their academic performance. Financial support is available for MTech in Computer Science and Information Security (CSIS) and Computational Linguistics students.
Educational Loans :
The institute has tie-up with Andhra Bank to provide education loans to the students at concessional rate of interest. It will be through on the first day of registration.

Is there any Financial Support for MS by Research and PhD programmes ?
IIIT, Hyderabad provides handsome financial support to ALL full-time students of the research programmes, namely, the MS by Research and PhD.The support comes from the institute, sponsored projects, or the industry.
Tuition fees:
The tuition fee is covered in the financial support that is extended to all full-time research students and the fee payable by the student is ZERO.
Can I get a stipend during my studies?
Almost all full-time students of the above programmes are paid a stipend towards the living expenses. The stipend varies with the year, programme, and source of funding. For M.Tech programmes in CS, CSIS, VLSI & ES, Bioinformatics, CASE
The full-time tuition fees for the students of these M.Tech programmes is Rs 62,500 per semester .The fees are payable at the beginning of the semester during registration. The living expenses such as the hostel, mess, and electricity charges are based on actual expenses.
I am a GATE-qualified candidate, can i get a scholarships?
GATE-qualified students of the M.Tech programmes are eligible to receive the scholarships as per AICTE norms. These are disbursed to the students after the money is received from AICTE. The fees, however, are payable by the student at the beginning of each semester.
