It all depends on the person. If he is more interested in money then company. If he's interested in research purpose then institute.

its depends upon candidat intrest but must be join where provides hand practice --either institute or company--
ReplyDeleteit is most imp to be practically well skilled along with theoritical one becoz every one wants results.It is better to get project from an esteemed organization.

ReplyDeleteI think a very reputed company should be chosen because for an average student it is best if during project work one shows dedicated hard work, the company may give chance for job and even refer for enrolment of Phd sidewise. An average company may give a work experience which may be counted further.

I am venkat from chennai. Last year i did my final year project in hyderabad. Its a research oriented biotech company and they are running a institute parallely. I did 1 month project and felt well doing everything on my own. Good part is there assistance. Here is their website

As far as my experience goes, i suggest students to get a strong foundation on "BASICS" whether theoritical or practical.

ReplyDeleteIf you want to take up a job immediately after MSc. then Company is a better place and if you desire to take up PhD then project in an institute(not private) is the best option.

ReplyDeletethis is deependra I'm presently doing my project work for MSc dessertation from The center for Genomic Application (TCGA), new delhi(IGIB & IMM collaberation).so it is public private partnership commercial institute.
in my openion institutes are better than company bcoz they won't let you to hendle their own costly chemicals & equipments so easily and u cant do your own work freely as u like. and the knowledge u'll get is limited. where in institutes u r given a roject and u r free to do your work under ur supervisior.and here noboby is free to give u his time.
but those who are intrested to go in industries they are benefited as trainees are easily absorbed by companies. as they count thier industrial training as an experience.
for project work institute is perfect place for your hands on every part of ur project.. but as far as job is concerned one should prefer company...
ReplyDeleteas a researcher i can only say that students should aim to do good research and then publish or patent their work. this takes time and its imp therefore to build a good team. one should therefore look for a good team leader with whom one can gel for long hours and years.
ReplyDeletea good researcher under a good mentor can rise in life and many projects for financial help can be sent to BBT/DST/DOE, etc.
ya i agree wid lucy it all depends upon personal interest. if u r interested in PhD after your masters degree thn choose institute for your project so that u can have a fair idea about research work.
ReplyDeletea company will be better for a project work than an institute because the exposure in a company is not limited only to one`s project topic but also gives an insight to how exactly does the business function. knowledge of concepts and lab skills coupled with interpersonal skills can take one a long way ahead in her/his career.what is important than knowledge is how it is being executed.

ReplyDeleteI'm from Tamilnadu, i had done a project work in private institution in chennai named Neogen Biosolutions. But the way the faculty's Knowledge and other facilities r poor.So Better to choose another place for Project work from my personal experience.

I am Kannan from Trichy. I strongly recomend that to do the project in reputed research institutes. It gives you an exposure to a quality research experience. If you go for a industry, they are keen on your money only. You wont get any knowledge from there.

ReplyDeleteWell i think Research institute is ideal. In company u would find the R and D division. they actually do the research and develop it to provide a product. So as far as biological science is concerned company is merely an extension of a research institution that aims at commercialisation of a novel product. In life science sector u need to have strong research facility to compete with others and capture the market and hence should occupy the major part in the development of the company. Start with research institution that has aims or research focus in applied science studies which will focus on commercialisation of the product. So dudes and dudettes start ur research experience or laboratory skills in a research institution and then enter industries.
