OUTLINE OF THE WORKSHOP
This workshop aims to make the basic techniques in molecular biology accessible to the teachers responsible for imparting scientific knowledge to our young minds. The workshop will help the college teachers teaching life sciences and biotechnology, to update their laboratory skills and improve technical knowledge, thereby further enhancing their teaching skills.
The following techniques would be taught, with individual hands-on exposure
Isolation of Plasmid DNA from E.Coli
Isolation of Genomic DNA from Blood
Polymerase Chain Reaction
Amplification refractory mutation system polymerase chain reaction
Protein Isolation from Blood
Polymorphism Studies – Restriction Fragment length polymorphism, Single strand confirmation polymorphism
Cloning
Blunt end Ligation
Poly-acrlyamide gel electrophoresis
Western Blotting
Eligibility
Faculty teaching undergraduate students in life sciences and biotechnology at any Indian University/College may attend the course.
Selection Procedure
Selection is on a ‘first come first served’ basis with proof of eligibility. The number of participants is limited to 25 only. Not more than two faculty members from the same department will be entertained.
Course material, tea/coffee and a working lunch will be provided for all participants. TA/DA will be paid as per GOI norms.

Incomplete applications would be summarily rejected. Upon selection, the teachers are requested to confirm their registration on or before 10th December 2009.
