BACKGROUND
Ever increasing human population, changing environment, lifestyle, quality, consciousness and degrading natural resources have made scientists of botanical discipline to go ahead with research for conservation of flora and for balanced ecosystem. Green plants rule the world by being the primary products of the world ecosystem.
Under these circumstances, the Scientists have the compulsion of pursuing research and exchange their ideas towards reaching the goals of sustenance in food supply and maintaining the balance in the ecosystem. To meet the demands, research in the field of Genetics, Breeding, Cell and Molecular Biology, Physiology, Biotechnology, Biodiversity, Bio-informatics and Genomics are becoming essential. Exchange of thoughts, ideas and reviewing the work done in these fields at regular intervals can speed up the research for achieving the goal and this august gathering can discuss and plan for future research.
Based on these objectives, the Department of Botany, Annamalai University is holding a Two day National Seminar cum one day workshop from 18.02.2010 to 20.02.2010
The Department of Botany has an Outstanding Record of promoting Excellent Research, right from its inception. It has been recognized as DST-FIST & UGC-SAP Sponsored Department. The Department has produced 159 Ph.Ds in a variety of botanical disciplines.
