The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier national autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoE&F), Government of India in the field of teaching, training and research.
In order to attract motivated and talented students to work in the field of wildlife conservation, the Institute has initiated an Internship Programme (IP).
The objectives of the internship programme are;
(i) to provide a framework by which graduate and post-graduate students from diverse academic backgrounds may work in the Institute for a short period to enhance their educational experience through practical work assignments; and (ii) to provide the Institute's faculty with the assistance of highly motivated and talented students to execute work in key thematic areas in wildlife conservation. Under IP, interns with good analytical and research aptitude and capable of hard and diligent work under the guidance of Institute's faculty will be selected.
The WII wishes to engage three (03) interns during the academic session from January to June 2010.

Subject/Thematic Areas/Project
i. Human Dimensions of Wildlife Conservation.
ii. Environment Impact Assessment programme/activities of WII.
iii. Policy and legal issues pertaining to wildlife conservation issues and conflict dimensions on landscape species.
iv. Ecology of Asiatic Black Bear in Dachigam National Park.
v. Developing spatial database for large carnivore, their prey and habitats in Khangchendzonga Biosphere Reserve.
vi. Species identification from faeces, population estimation, and molecular tracking of individuals.
vii. Barcoding anurans of India.
viii. Ecology of two endemic turtles.
ix. Ecology & evolutionary biology, on sustainability issues taking the local community into consideration in the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve.
x. Involvement of community living around the tiger reserve in interpretive/tourism activities and their attitude thereof, and, profiling visitors to the tiger reserve.
xi. Wildlife health management; Managing wild animals in captivity (health, behaviour, enrichment) and/or Managing man animal conflict.
Eligibility
Students studying in recognized colleges, universities and institutions of higher learning are eligible to apply for the IP. Applications for the IP must be duly forwarded by the Principal/Dean/Registrar of the College/University/Institution, in which the student is currently studying.
Duration
The duration of the internship will be for a maximum period of 6 months.
How to apply
The duly filled-in application form for the Internship Programme in the prescribed format shall be submitted online to the Dean, Faculty of Wildlife Sciences, Wildlife Institute of India, , latest by 20th December 2009
