Background and Objectives

Computational biology has initiated a new revolution in life science research by  providing computational solutions to biological problems, particularly in the field of drug discovery, which is extremely complex and ever changing - with new methodologies and technologies being introduced constantly. Availability of huge amount of data has tremendously enhanced the speed of biological research and dramatically reduced the cost of research.

CADD is an exciting and diverse discipline where various aspects of applied and basic research merge and stimulate each other. CADD was developed to manage vast quantities of compounds produced during drug discovery programs and the need to examine these huge libraries in short periods of time. CADD represents computational methods and resources that are used to facilitate the design and discovery of new therapeutic solution. The latest technological advances (QSAR/QSPR, structurebased design, combinatorial library design, cheminformatics and bioinformatics), the growing number of chemical and biological database, and an explosion in currently available software tools are providing a much improved basis for the design of ligands and inhibitors with desired specificity.

The purpose of this meeting is to stimulate progress in the methods of computer-aided drug design. This will be accomplished by bringing theory and practice into contact at a number of levels in order to highlight interesting and important practical problems waiting to be solved, and by deepening participants’ understanding of the science underlying these challenges.

Topics

The prime objective of this workshop is to understand the role of computational methodologies in drug design and development process and to discuss their applications leading towards drug development. This workshop will also provide an insight onto the current methods and strategies that are being used to analyze biological information through guided practical training.

A series of lectures and presentations will cover above mentioned topics by experts from IIT-D, AIIMS, NIPER, NIMR, JNU etc. Demonstration of specific drug design and bioinformatics tools in data mining, drug design and development will be an important component of the workshop. Following are the broad topics to be discussed at the Training Workshop:

  • Practical Applications of Computational Biology/Chemistry in Drug Discovery

  • Visualizing the Intermolecular Interaction Networks in Protein/Ligand Complexes

  • Modeling and Docking to Flexible Receptors

  • QSAR & QSPR

  • Computer-Aided Design and Optimization

  • Hands on Training by experts from vLife
