APPLICATION INVITED FOR SCIENTIST GROUP IV POSITIONS

Institute of Genomics & Integrative Biology (IGIB) a premier Institute of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), India, is engaged in five broad areas of research activity (i) Genomics and Molecular Medicine, (ii) Genome Informatics and Systems Biology, (iii) Chemical and Synthetic Biology (iv) Respiratory Disease Biology (v) Energy and Environment Biotechnology. IGIB offers excellent infrastructure support, start-up research funding along with a vibrant environment to perform research in interdisciplinary areas.

Additionally, access to research resources of other CSIR Institutes and strong networking with medical institutes, hospitals and universities has enabled IGIB to take up new challenges and be globally competitive in modern biological research. With dedicated areas for computational activity, functional genomics of model organisms, clinical research, start-up incubator labs and special centers for hosting international researchers in its upcoming campus, IGIB is all set to become one of the leading centers of biological research.

IGIB is interested in enthusiastic young researchers with proven record of scientific achievements. IGIB provides a unique interdisciplinary environment wherein scientists enjoy a mix of individual freedom and collective scientific support to carry out research of international quality. The Institute plans to induct a cumulative maximum of ten researchers in any of the following areas.

a) Genome Informatics and Systems biology: 

Applicant(s) should have background inhigh performance computing in biological systems and Systems biology. Experience in numerical analysis/programming is a necessary qualification in this area. Experience in statistical analysis would be preferred

b) Molecular and Cellular Biology: 

Applicant(s) in the area should have demonstrated experience in cellular organization and organelle biology and should be inclined to pursue research projects to understand fundamental aspects of cellular organization and organelle biology and linking these studies to human diseases using molecular tools.

c) Chemical and Synthetic Biology: 

Applicant(s) should have experience in metabolic engineering applying genome biology knowledge of industrially significant microbes through synthetic biology to re-design biological pathways with useful traits, understand fundamental questions and applications towards production of bioactive molecules or bio-fuels.

d) Zebra fish Biology: Applicant (s) should be well versed with modern molecular biology and have working experience on chemical genomics using zebra fish as a model system.

e) Structural Biology: Applicant(s) should have a demonstrated record of significant accomplishment in the areas of X-ray crystallography /NMR spectroscopy/ EM and optical imaging.

f) Skin Biology: Applicant(s) should have interest in understanding the tissue level dynamics of skin and expertise in using diverse approaches to study mechanisms of skin diseases / biology.

g) Asthma Immunology: Applicant(s) should have research interests in molecular and cellular basis of asthma especially in the area of epithelial biology such as airway remodeling.

h) Tuberculosis Research: Applicant(s) should have extensive experience in studying host-pathogen interactions in the context of tuberculosis with a commitment to manage BSL-3 facility and specialized animal facility at IGIB.

Depending on the essential qualifications as stated below, applicant can apply for following post under any area as stated above.

Post No. 1 Scientist-EI Group IV (3) 


Pay-Scale: Rs15600-39100 (PB-3) with Grade Pay of Rs7600/- (Total monthly
emoluments will be Rs.50,400/- approx.)
Age limit: 40 years

Essential Qualifications: PhD with 4 (Four) years of postdoctoral experience OR MD with 5 (Five) years relevant experience

Post No. 2. Scientist-C Group IV (2) 


Pay-Scale: Rs15600-39100 (PB-3) with Grade Pay of Rs.6600/- (Total monthly emoluments will Rs.44,000/- approx.)

Age limit: 35 years

Essential Qualifications: PhD with 1 (One) year postdoctoral experience or MD with 2 (two) years relevant experience.

General Conditions:
1. Hard copy of the on-line application must be accompanied by one self attested photograph, publication reprints, attested copies of certificates and testimonials and names of five to eight referees with their contact details etc.
2. The upper age limit will be reckoned as on March 26, 2010. The upper age-limit is relaxable in case of SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates as per Govt. of India rules. The upper age-limit is also relaxable by 5 years in case of Council/Government/Autonomous Bodies/Public Sectors employees as per CSIR Rules.
3. Applicants of Indian origin, settled abroad, who are of proven merit as evidenced by their research work, may be considered in absentia by the selection committee.
4. Relaxation in upper age limit, qualifications and/or experience, in case of exceptionally meritorious candidates, (both departmental and outsiders) may be considered with the prior approval of competent authority.
5. Applications from employees of Government/Semi-Govt Departments, Public Sector Undertakings and Autonomous Bodies will be considered only if routed through proper channel.
6. Applications received after the closing date will not be entertained. Incomplete applications will be summarily rejected.
7. Mere fulfillment of essential educational qualifications and/or experience does not entitle a candidate to be called for interview. The Institute will decide its own criteria to short-list the applications.
8. Application submitted from India (not applicable for candidates who are presently residing abroad) should be accompanied by a Demand Draft of Rs.100.00 (Rupees One hundred only) drawn in favor of Director, Institute of Genomics & Integrative Biology, payable at Delhi (Applicant should write his/her name and date of birth at the back of the DD). SC/ST/PH candidates and regular employees of CSIR are exempted
from payment of application fee.
9. Period of experience in a discipline/area of work shall be counted from the date of acquiring of minimum prescribed educational qualification.
10. The positions carry usual allowances as admissible to Central Govt. employees in the same pay scale and posted at Delhi.
11. The number of vacancies indicated is provisional and may vary at the time of selection.
12. 13. The decision of Director, IGIB in all matters relating to selection shall be final and binding on the candidates. Interim enquiries will not be entertained.
14. Canvassing in any form or bringing any influence, political or otherwise, will be treated as a disqualification.
