Advanced Course in Bioinformatics
Advanced Course in Bioinformatics (ACB) jointly organised by IICT,CDAC & JNTU is a unique course in several aspects like
-
Excellent infrastructure facilities -
Faculties from different reputed institutes of India -
Guest lectures by eminent scientists from India and abroad -
Interactions with eminent industrialists during workshop -
Hands on for some modules of High Performance Computing Systems and instrumentation techniques
The main objective of this course is to provide an insight into the value of rapid access to scientific information for education and research purposes
Course Focus
The end of the 20th century has seen an explosion of information discovered from living organisms, especially in areas of molecular biology and genetics. The focus of bioinformatics is dealing with this flood of information, coming from academic, industry and government labs, and turning it into useful knowledge:
-
What are the critical sources of information for advancing fundamental knowledge in biology, medicine, Biotechnology, pharmacology, agriculture and related biosciences? -
What are the best computing methods to be applied to collect, organize, analyze and distribute this information to advance this research? -
How quickly can these methods be integrated with bioscience research to meet demands of rapidly growing body of data and to speed the flow of knowledge?
Course Structure
The Advanced Course in Bioinformatics is a Six months fulltime course consisting of thirteen modules and an industry relevant project. The continuous evaluation is a part of the course structure where in the students day to day work would be evaluated based on the performance through assignments and tests. Daily session comprises of 3 hours of classroom lecture followed by 4 hours of lab work.
