The Institute invites applications from Indian nationals having excellent academic record and relevant work experience for the following positions under the project “Centre of Excellence on Epigenetics (IISER, Pune)” funded by Ministry of Science & Technology, Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India :

A. Scientist posts at IISER, Pune

Post-1 Scientist – D (2 Posts)
Pay Band + Grade Pay Rs.15600-39100 + GP Rs. 7600
Qualification and Experience
PhD in Life sciences/ physics/ chemistry/ computational biology; Minimum 3 year research experience after PhD; Candidate should have published at least three first author research articles in a peer reviewed scientific journal.
Desirable Experience in any of the following: molecular biology/cell biology techniques, developmental biology, FISH/cytogenetics, Stem cells, mathematical modeling, genomics and/or proteomics.
Job Requirements
The incumbent scientist is expected to develop his or her own research projects along the theme of the Centre of Excellence in Epigenetics and also work along with the team of senior scientists in the various scientific research projects at the Centre.
Age Not more than 40 years as on closing date of advertisement.
Post-1 Technical Officer – C / Scientist – C (2 Posts)
Pay Band + Grade Pay Rs.15600-39100 + GP Rs. 6600
Qualification and Experience
PhD in Life sciences/ Bioinformatics/ Statistics/ Physics/ Computer science/ Computational biology (PhD awarded no earlier than 2006); Minimum 1 year research experience after PhD; Candidate should have published at least two research articles in peer reviewed scientific journals.
Desirable Experience with any of the following: molecular biology/cell biology techniques, microinjection, DNA sequence analysis, statistical tests in biological systems, mathematical modeling, Working experience with next generation high throughput DNA sequencing, Working experience with Zebra fish model.
Job Requirements
The incumbent officer/scientist is expected to maintain and use stateof- the-art equipments required for the centre, and help the team of senior scientists in analysis of data Age Not more than 35 years as on closing date of advertisement.
B. Projects at affiliated institutions

B1. Agharkar Research Institute (ARI), Pune
Project titles:
1. Epigenetics of regeneration in hydra (Sanjeev Galande, IISER, Pune; Surendra Ghaskadbi, ARI)
2. Transgenic hydra facility for the study of molecular regulation of regeneration and pattern formation (Surendra Ghaskadbi, ARI; Vidya Patwardhan, ARI)
JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOW (Three)
Essential qualifications: M. Sc. In any area of life sciences with minimum 55% marks and passing of NET/GATE test.
Desirable: Experience in cell and/or molecular biology lab work/hydra biology.
The JRFs are expected to work in a team and participate in work on regulation of regeneration, pattern formation and stem cells in wild type and transgenic hydra.
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (One)
Essential qualifications: PhD in any area of life sciences.
Desirable: Experience of working with hydra/microinjection into cells or embryos/hands on experience in cell and molecular biology, as evident from publications in peerreviewed journals.
The RA is expected to work in a team and take a lead into setting up a transgenic hydra facility that will include mass culture of hydra, microinjection into embryos, characterization of transgenic lines and use of the transgenics to study genetic and epigenetic regulation of regeneration, pattern formation and stem cell renewal and differentiation.
B2. Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad & Center for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD), Hyderabad 

Project title: Epigenetic dynamics in cell types and its potential association with environment and disease (Rakesh Mishra, CCMB; Sanjeev Khosla, CDFD))

JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOW (Two)
Essential qualifications: M. Sc. In any area of life sciences with minimum 55% marks and passing of NET/GATE test.
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (Two)
Essential qualifications: PhD in any area of life sciences.
B3. Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad & Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai 

Project title: Epigenetics of neurogenesis, neural stem cells and cancer stem cells of neural origin (Arvind Kumar, CCMB; Vidita Vaidya, TIFR)

JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOW (One)
Essential qualifications: M. Sc. or B Tech or MBBS
Desirable: Experience in Neurobiology, Stem cell biology
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (Two)
Essential qualifications: Ph. D.
Desirable: Experience in Neurobiology, Stem cell biology
Salary: Research Associate: Rs. 16,000/Rs. 18,000/- p.m. + HRA as admissible. 
Junior Research Fellow: Rs. 12,000/- p.m. + HRA as admissible.
NOTE: If NET/GATE qualified candidates are not found suitable for the proposed work, applicants without NET/GATE clearance will be considered based on their experience/expertise.

General Information / details about the posts 

1) The above posts are as per the pay and allowances applicable to the said project and will be for the maximum duration of 5 years only. Posts 1 and 2 are eligible for allowances like Dearness, House Rent and Transport as admissible to the government employees employed at Pune.
2) Post 1 can be absorbed as regular faculty at IISER Pune depending upon the performance during the tenure of the project. If absorbed, the candidates will be covered under the New Pension Scheme of Govt. of India.
3) Posts 1 and 2 are eligible for benefits such as Medical, LTC, Children Education etc. as per the Government / Institute norms.
4) Posts 1 and 2 may be filled on deputation basis on foreign service terms in case of the applicants working in Govt. organization/Public sector undertaking/ Govt. funded research agencies. Age limit may be relaxed commensurate with relevant experience. Such applicants should forward their application through proper channel. However, an advance copy of application should be sent before the last date indicating their willingness to be considered on deputation. Pay of such incumbent will be protected as per Govt. of India rules.
5) The qualification prescribed should have been obtained from recognized Universities / Institutions.
6) Age should not exceed the limit as on the closing date of receipt of completed application. However, age relaxation will be considered in case of SC/ST/OBC/Physical handicapped and Ex-servicemen applicants as applicable.
7) The prescribed Essential Qualifications / Experience indicated are bare minimum and mere possession of same will not entitle the applicants to be called for interview.
Where number of applications received in response to an advertisement is large, it may not be convenient or possible for the Institute to interview all the applicants.
The Institute may restrict the number of applicants to be called for selection process to a reasonable limit, on the basis of qualifications and experience higher than that of the minimum prescribed in the advertisement. The applicants should, therefore, furnish details of all the qualifications and experience possessed in the relevant field, over and above the minimum qualifications / experience prescribed along with attested photocopies of marks sheets / certificates.
8) Relaxation in age, educational qualification and / or experience will be considered in case of exceptionally meritorious applicants, with prior approval of the Competent Authority.
9) No interim enquiries / correspondence / communication of any sort will be entertained on the matter.
10) Canvassing in any form and / or bringing any influence, political, or otherwise, will be treated as a disqualification for the post applied for.
