The PhD student will be a member of the LSRU (Life Sciences Research Unit) within the Faculty of Science, Technology and Communication at the University of Luxembourg. The multidisciplinary research unit focuses on the communication of cells thematically (cell migration/adhesion and inflammation) and mechanistically (signal transduction, bioinformatics and computational biology). He/she will work under the tutelage of Pr. Eric Tschirhart.

Mission

  • Obtain a PhD in Biology

  • Work under the supervision of a professor on a research project

  • Write a thesis in the domain of physiology

  • Contribute to research in the field of inflammation to obtain a doctoral degree in Life Sciences

  • Assist in teaching undergraduate courses in the domains of biology
Title of the research project:

Regulation of neutrophil functions during inflammation: Role of SNARE fusion proteins

Project description:

The aim of the work is to provide novel molecular insights into our understanding of regulated inflammatory functions (Ca2+ homeostasis, secretion of cytokines and S100A8/A9, release of reactive oxygen species) in neutrophils based on the role of SNARE system in order to define mechanism leading to inflammatory diseases

Profile:

  • Master’s degree in the field of biology (cell biology, molecular biology, physiology…). Equivalent studies and degree will also be considered.

  • Experience in cell culture, RT-qPCR and western blotting techniques (experience in flow cytometry and spectrofluorimetry will be appreciate)

  • Language: English and French
Applications:

  • A detailed curriculum vitae

  • A motivation letter
