National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health, Mumbai, a premier institute of the Indian Council of Medical Research, conducts basic, clinical and operational research in different areas of reproductive health.
The thrust areas of research include:
Fertility Regulation, Infertility and Reproductive Disorders, Reproductive Tract Infections, Maternal and Child Health, Osteoporosis, Genetic Disorders, Stem Cell Biology, Structural Biology, Bioinformatics and Reproductive Toxicology. Institute is affiliated to the University of Mumbai for the award of Ph.D. degree in Applied Biology, Biochemistry, Life Sciences and Biotechnology.
The institute invites applications from young and bright students for enrollment in Ph.D. programme.
Who can apply:
Candidates with M.Sc. in Biological Sciences/ M.Pharm./ M.V.Sc. or M.B.B.S. (securing not less than 60% marks for general category candidates and not less than 55% marks for SC/ST candidates in all major examinations from higher secondary (10 + 2) onwards), and willing to take up challenges in modern biology through Ph.D. programme of the Institute may submit their application in the prescribed format.
Upper age limit is 28 years as on 30 th July, 2010 (the deadline for submission of application) and it is relaxable upto 5 years for SC/ST/Physically handicapped persons as well as women candidates and 3 years in case of OBC candidates as per Government of India rules in this regard.
Limited Hostel facility will be available for outstation women candidates selected for the Ph.D. programme.
How to apply:
Application form should be duly filled in and submitted along with two recent photographs (passport size) and a Demand Draft for Rs. 300/- (no application fee for SC/ST/PH candidates provided they submit supporting document) drawn in favour of “Director, NIRRH Mumbai” to In-charge, Post Graduate Studies, National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health, Jehangir Merwanji Street, Parel, Mumbai 400012, so as to reach on or before 30 th July, 2010. Envelope should be marked as “NIRRH Ph.D-2010”. Incomplete applications and applications received after the closing date will be disqualified.
Selection Procedure:
Candidates fulfilling minimum requirements will be invited to appear for a written examination of 1½ hours duration on 29 th August, 2010 in Mumbai. Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination this year or awaiting results may also apply, provided they fulfill the minimum requirements on the date of the interview. Venue of the examination and the list of candidates who are eligible to appear for the written examination will be displayed on the website of the institute. Candidates with JRF from CSIR/UGC/ICMR/DBT are exempted from appearing for the written examination provided their fellowship is valid till 30 th September, 2010 and if found eligible will be invited for interview. But they must submit the duly filled application form on or before 30 th July, 2010.
The names of the short-listed candidates based on their performance in the written examination will be displayed at the (i) NIRRH website and (ii) NIRRH security gate after 5.00 p.m. on 30 th August, 2010 . Interviews will be held on 31 st August, 2010 and 1 st September, 2010 at NIRRH.
The selected candidates, who have passed CSIR/UGC/ICMR/DBT examination will avail fellowship from respective funding agency. Other selected candidates will initially be paid Rs. 8000/- per month and encouraged to seek higher fellowship from other funding agencies.
NIRRH reserves the right to change the minimum eligibility requirements in case of receipt of large number of applications. The decision of the Admission Committee will be final and binding and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard. Canvassing in any form and/or bringing in any influence will be treated as disqualification. No traveling allowance shall be provided by the Institute and outstation candidates either appearing for written examination or interview should make their own arrangements for their stay in Mumbai.
