Recombinant DNA Technology has become one of the most powerful tools of modern day biotechnology which can be applicable for improvement of health and production of animal as well as plant. These techniques allow us to identfy new genes, characterization of breeds, development of new generation vaccines as well as rapid diagnostics for the prevention and treatment of diseases of livestock which are major constraints in enhancing the productivity and economic returns. In the past few years,
Recombinant DNA Techniques have become popular due to their sensitivity and specificity regarding diagnosis of infectious diseases. As far as bioinformatics is concern, it is a fast developing branch of biology and is highly interdisciplinary derives knowledge from computer analysis of biological data. It has many practical applications in different areas of biotechnology and medicine. Therefore, the present practical training course is designed to provide hands on training on Recombinant DNA Techniques & Bioinformatics Tools. The training programme will also include theoretical aspects of molecular biology, biotechnology and bioinformatics for better understanding.
Course contents
Isolation and purification of RNA and DNA of pathogens from blood, semen, clinical tissues, faecal samples, etc.
Isolation and purification of genomic DNA from blood, semen and tissues, etc
RNA-Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis for segmented viruses
cDNA synthesis and amplification of viral genes by RT-PCR
Rapid amplification of polymorphic DNA
DNA fingerprinting
Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism
Cloning of viral genes
Plasmid isolation from recombinant bacteria
Nucleotide sequence analysis and primer designing
Restriction mapping, sequence alignment, BLAST
Phylogenetic analysis of sequence data

Laboratory and computing facilities: The laboratories are well equipped with modern equipments and other lab wares.
Accommodation: Arrangements for the stay of the participants during the training program will be made in faculty house of the university on the payment basis. Number of participants: The maximum number of participants shall not exceed 20. Participants and eligibility: Participants are invited from ICAR Institutes/ SAU/Basic Science Institutes/ Sate Governments/Private Organizations. They should be graduates having interest in the training.
How to apply: The application for participation may be sent in prescribed format, duly forwarded by head of the institution. It should reach to the Course Director latest by November 1st , 2010 by post, fax or by email .TA & DA of the participants will be borne by participants/sponsoring institutions/ organisations etc. The participants will also have to pay for their boarding and lodging charges during the training program. The organizers of the course will not bear any expenses on account of the participants. The participants will be informed about their selection by November 4th, 2010.
