Applications are invited from eligible candidates for admission to the various academic programmes for the year 2011-12 as listed below. Admissions are based on Common Admission Test (CAT)/Departmental Admission Test (DAT)/Test for Lateral Entry (LET) and all applicants intending to apply for the academic programmes listed under 1.1, 1.2. and 4 are required to submit their applications through Online Registration whereas for programmes listed under 2, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 and 3.4 the application forms can be had from the concerned departments/schools.

Candidates who have appeared/are appearing in full for their final qualifying examinations are also eligible to apply, but this provision is not applicable to the students appearing for compartmental/improvement examinations. All UGC specified degrees, diplomas etc. awarded by UGC approved Statutory Universities are recognized by this University for admission to various courses. However, Distance Education Courses will be considered as recognized, only if they are further approved by the Distance Education Council, New Delhi also. On-line registration will commence on 15-01-2011.
1.2 POST GRADUATE PROGRAMMES
M. Sc. Biotechnology
Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Life Sciences including Agricultural and Medical Science or Chemical Science or Chemical Engg. with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate.
M. Sc. Environmental Technology
Stream I - Env. Engg. - Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with Physics and Mathematics as subsidiaries, or Engg. (Civil/Public Health/Environmental or Chemical) with 55% marks.
Stream II - Env. Biotech. –Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences/ Environmental Sciences/ Zoology/ Botany/ Microbiology with 55% marks.
M. Sc. Marine Biology
B.Sc. degree with any branch of Life Sciences such as Aquaculture, Bio-chemistry, Biotechnology, Botany, Microbiology and Zoology as a main subject or B.Sc. degree in Fishery Science with at least 55% marks in the optional subjects.
2. M.TECH. PROGRAMMES
Admissions to the following M.Tech. programmes are based on valid GATE score as prescribed under the academic regulations specific to each programme. Candidates not possessing GATE may also apply, but will be considered only if GATE qualified candidates are not available. In such cases, admissions will be based on the DAT.
M. Tech. Marine Biotechnology
Minimum 60% Marks or equivalent CGPA in any one of the following from any recognized Indian or Foreign University.
1. B. Tech/ BE in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Industrial Biotechnology, Leather Biotechnology, Chemistry/Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, B.Pharm., Chemical Technology. 2. M.Sc. in Biotechnology, Marine Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Botany/ Zoology/Biochemistry, Microbiology/ Genetics, Biophysics, Microbial Genetics and Bioinformatics, Marine Biology/ Aquatic Biology and Fisheries/Environmental Biotechnology/Mariculture. Selection of candidates is done by JNU on behalf of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.
3.3 M. Phil. PROGRAMMES (FULL-TIME)
Candidates seeking admission to the Master of Philosophy degree course should have passed a Master’s degree examination in the concerned subject of any of the Universities approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) or an examination accepted by the Academic Council as equivalent thereto and have obtained a minimum of 55% aggregate marks (or equivalent grade) in the examination. Candidates who have passed the Master’s degree examination in the Distance/Continuing Education mode are eligible for admission only if their degree is awarded by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).
M. Phil. Life Sciences
Master’s degree in any branch of Life Sciences with 60% marks.
6. IMPORTANT POINTS AT A GLANCE
6.1. Only Online applications will be considered for all B.Tech Programmes including Lateral Entry Programmes, 5 year Integrated M.Sc in Photonics, 5 year B.B.A. LL.B (Hons.), and Post Graduate Programmes.
6.2. For M.Phil, M.Tech. M.A Translation in German & Russian, Ph.D, Diploma and Certificate programmes, applications can be had from the concerned Departments/ Schools/Centres either directly or by post.
6.3. For M.Tech programmes applications can be downloaded from site (www.cusat.nic.in) and the same can be submitted with required documents to the department concerned along with registration fee.
6.4. Fee Details:
Mode of payment: For Online registration (6.1) – Chalan to be downloaded and the payment should be made only through the bank of SBI or SBT and others (6.2) by way Demand Draft (DD) through SBI/SBT in favour of Registrar, CUSAT payable at Ernakulam. R 850/- for General Category Candidates and ` 375/- for SC/ST Category ` 5850/- for candidates who apply under NRI Quota Diploma & Certificate Programmes - ` 100/- for general category and ` 50/- for SC/ST category. DDs issued by SBT or SBI should only be accepted. Candidates should write his/her name and Application No. on upper left hand corner of the reverse side of the DD. The DD should be taken on or after the date of CAT 2011 Notification. DD taken after the last date fixed for the submission of application will not be accepted.
